I am so glad to see someone look at the history as it is and not through the fog of modern society. Kudos

I just love you 2 girls together doing these kinds of documentaries. You make it fun to learn. Thank you!

I would really like to hear something about contraception, especially for sex workers at this time

The Bishop of Winchester’s Geese always make me smile.

Oh hey, it's a crossover episode with my two favourite history people! Gotta click on that

"We think of sex work as a modern invention"

I don't know that we do. It's often called the World's Oldest Profession.

You know I think I’d prefer medieval beer. The bitterness is what gets me

Disease was a big problem.

Paul also said lust was the worst sin because it was a “sin against yourself” or something.

Having sex in the tight servants’ room. No problem. It’s like a modern college dorm room.

I wonder if the church decided that taking your own life was a sin, because they needed a workforce.  🤔🤔🤔
If the wealthy don't want you to get ahead, and the church doesn't want you to have any fun, why would so many people stick around otherwise?
4:39  Now a childhood song popped into my head.
🎵With rings on her fingers,
and bells on her toes,
she shall have music wherever she goes🎵  Hmm
And I was today years old when I found out the name of that memory from my youth was "Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross"

"Hey, Eli, your ale sucks!"

11:53 if only it were so easy, I could instantly be rid of my nagging in-laws

Omg ANOTHER reupload. Whyyyyy

Wow it just clicked when she said that about America that she's American and not British..... Damn and I'm not even blonde 😳

Apparently there are no male historians left in Britain.

That is anachronistic. Of course of course, there were rainbow flags flying from Chelsea and a famous venue in the heart of London called Paul of Rue’s Drag Dash. The fact of the matter is, due in large part to their less than full understanding of anatomy, medieval courts, both canon and municipal, classified people into three categories; male, female, or hermaphrodite. Many actually believed in chimeras at the time. That God truly made people who were man and woman both. Even that such a person could impregnate themselves. (Many also believed of a race of one footed people in the Far East so…) The deal was that if you were a hermaphrodite you had to choose to live as either a man or a woman and you couldnt switch it up later. Some of these people had actual medical birth defects like we would describe as intersex today and some really were more just women living as men and men living as women. They were supposed to be examined by a medical professional to determine their hermaphroditism and usually they were but not always and anyway since a lot of “doctors” then had no idea what they were doing they classified people as hermaphrodites who werent actually.  Look into the 14th century Venice case of Rolandina Ronchaia and especially the 16th century Spanish case of Eleno de Cespedes who was brought before the Spanish Inquisition. The second example was a big old mess and the tribunal so confused about exactly what Eleno was that they dropped all charges except bigamy and because of their medical skills basically sentenced
him/her to work in a hospital for the poor for 10 years. Although he/she was paraded in punishment at an auto-da-fe as well. (Not playing any modern language or pronoun games one way or another with the he/she stuff. We still simply do not know what sex they were.) However the fact remains that transvestism was illegal. Men could not dress as women or women as men. And again even the intersex or the supposed intersex had to choose one gender or the other. What was Joan of Arc tried and convicted of after all? Dressing like a man. So no courts werent just totally fine with male prostitutes dressing and behaving like women so long as they didn’t F in the wrong part of town.
