Eastern Poland in Winter 🇵🇱 Train to Białystok (-7°C!)

Today I’m travelling across eastern Poland from Przemyśl to Białystok — the furthest east I’ve ever been. 🇵🇱❄️

I start the journey in freezing conditions (-7°C) before heading north with a connection in Warsaw. Along the way, I stop off for some McDonald’s, trying a few items you can’t get back home in the UK.

After a long day of travel, I arrive in Białystok, where the city is completely covered in snow — a proper winter atmosphere in one of Poland’s easternmost cities.

This train doesn't have a restaurant car but it has a vending machine in which you can buy hot and cold drinks as well as some snacks

It's nice to remember how snowed Poland looked like through train windows not so long ago. I bet you haven't stopped in the Lubusz voivodeship yet. If you'd like to visit someday, we have interesting IC hybrids to and from Poznań on the way to Gorzów. The city itself has a lot to offer as a capital of the region but the best times are summer weekends, especialy this year from August 28th to 30th when the NSK (Night Culinary Trail) takes place. IMO it's the best city event during which c. a. 50 restaurants serve themed dishes for a maximum of 15 PLN.

Never seen this station in Przemyśl in my life but recognized it instantly due to number of YT videos from start of the war in Ukraine where crowds of refugees arrived.

when i was a kid i remember a bułka z pieczarkami ( a baguette, warmed up on a hot spike, with white button mushrooms ) at Białystok Main Station..... man, i miss it....

13:13 "We invite you to our snack vending machines in car number... [cut]", so you could have gotten something to eat on that train. :)

30:58 "The delay is due to us needing to replace the train composition in Warsaw East", so that explains the car number mess-up and why there was "the same train" on the other track. :)

Białystok station got renovated very recently, so it looks very new because of that. Before the renovation, if I'm being completely honest, apart from the station building the station was quite run down, there was no roof and you had to walk over the train tracks to cross platforms.

Fun fact:
One of the cities you've traveled through is Przeworsk - the namesake of the Przeworsk Culture, which dates from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. At its peak, it spread across central and southern Poland, as well as several neighboring countries.

you can tell by the architecture that it was indeed a part of Austria-Hungary: you will find many similar train stations in Czechia, Austria, Hungary or Ukraine :)

shame you didn’t have time to explore the city of Przemyśl, really nice promenade, nice sunset, loads of old churches and buildings, beautiful city square

If you are in an normal IC train and you have a conection and your train is late, tell to the conductor, the person that checks the tickets, that you tave to change trains and you have concerns if you will be on time. They can contact the other train and ask them to wait. It is not working with EIC trains - they never wait

Warsaw East looks bad, but a comprehensive reconstruction will begin this year or early next year. After the reconstruction of Warsaw East station, the renovation of the cross-city line will begin, along with the tunnel under the central station and adjacent stations, Warszawa Ochota and Warszawa Powiśle.

The Warsaw East station is about to start massive refurbishment works this year which will end by 2029 in order to keep up the standards of the Warsaw West station.
So after 3 years you shall see the improvements
