HELLO everyone, I hope you're doing well.
I'm actually crying writing this part. It's been a long 6 and a half months, and I've loved every second of it. Thankyou all for tagging along, I'm SO glad I picked this over Yellowstone all those months ago.
Please let me know in the comments if I've missed anything crucial. I feel at this point I may have picked up on everything story related. But I'm guessing there may be a couple of easter eggs I may have missed!
I also have a new tier on Patreon, the 'Little Extra'. Along with early access, you will get a shout out in each video, monthly 'reading recaps' videos of everything I’ve read, along with a free digital bookmark, ready for you to print off. There are only a few at the moment, but let me know which one you want by messaging me on Patreon.

This is major! We've been mentioning - in the comments at least - how it's weird that alt-Martha's decision to save or not save Jonas created a split of them, and seemingly not of anybody else. Which we connected to that event, that decision. There's no real apparent reason why that decision would cause such a major consequence though.
Now, with this revelation from Claudia, we can understand that it wasn't actually the decision or action that caused the split at all, it was the timing during the apocalypse. The process of cause-and-effect is strung together by the passage of time, thereby locking everything within the loop in place forever. However, with time standing still in that instance, cause-and-effect was disrupted. This allowed whatever happened in that moment, to create a new version of you that could do something new. Ofc, if you don't manage to unravel it and the loop iterates again, that version's past actions will also be locked into the loop. Which is probably why Claudia took her time to really make sure she knows how to get them out of it, before starting to use it all over place. (This is a perspective from inside the loop btw, as things are seemingly happening and the loop iterating)

Follow-on: (this is my interpretation/theory)
I mentioned it from the perspective of our characters inside the loop, but I think it's pretty interesting to explore and consider the perspective of the people in Tannhaus' world, from outside of the loop.
So, this supposedly started when after losing his son and granddaughter, Tannhaus tried to invent time travel. It's unclear if he succeeded or not, but he did manage to create Jonas' and Martha's alternate worlds. However, it's easy to then fall into the in-loop perspective - since that's from where we have followed the story - where we think the two new worlds developed linearly and eventually created time travel, which ended up with them creating a massive bootstrap paradox loop. I suggest to you that this is wrong!
Let's remember the most basic thing about this loop and the events of these two worlds, because this we know quite intimately by now. The loop was one big paradox where the events were seemingly locked in place. There was no beginning nor end to it, it just was what it had always been and would always be (unless it was broken and unraveled). Everything was connected and interdependent on everything continuing roughly in the same way. So, I put it to you that from the very creation of the loop - which quite possibly may have been the creation of the two alternate worlds themselves - all the in-loop events must have already been determined in order for the loop to exist. Counting iterations of the loop is virtually pointless, because everything that's needed to maintain the loop is already determined.
This makes me think that from an outside perspective - from Tannhaus' world - all of this did happen in these two alternate worlds, but it happened all at the same time. Virtually instantaneously. Even Claudia eventually figuring out how to break the process-of-cause and effect that locks everything in place, and sending Adam/Jonas and Martha on their way to do something new and thereby break the loop, was always the determined final chapter of the loop. Because if from Tannhaus' perspective he did his time machine experiment and everything within the created loop and worlds happened in an instant, that means the determined outcome was always for the loop to eventually be broken.
However, it 's not like it was all undone and nothing ever happened! All of it did actually happen, even if it was in an instant which was eventually erased from the timeline! We see it by the usual deja vus and the information "bleed" from the erased alternate worlds into the origin world in that final scene. The same things that we saw happen in the alternate worlds between different points in time and worlds.
Besides, we know that if it had not happened, so that Jonas and Martha could come back here, Tannhaus would've lost his son and granddaughter, which is what caused all of this to begin with. In fact, it's not like the two alternate and their paradox loop was just created and blinked out of existence, because to actually achieve what they set out to do, Jonas and Martha had to technically travel back into the past of Tannhaus' world before he even invented the machine that started it. So, while it's unclear if the origin Tannhaus managed to create time travel, within the two worlds he accidentally created they definitely did. I suppose that works just as well for him.
The two worlds and their loop was erased, they did exist and their effects can still be felt in the origin world in the fabric of whatever defines that world. Ofc, the people there have no idea about it.
Theories:
- 1: Even though the people left in Tannhaus' origin world would be clueless about it, it seems like time travel - or at least worlds splitting - is possible in that world. If time travel is possible, then there's no guarantee that somebody at some point in time won't end up discovering it anyway. If they do - or have done - then it doesn't matter when they do it, because we've seen what chaos in the timeline it can create.
So...it begs the question, is Tannhaus' world itself still in some sort of time travel-created paradox loop? Is that the real reason they still keep getting the deja vus and information "bleed" from the two alternate worlds that have technically already been erased before they were even created at this point in time. Or....
- 2: I will reference back to when Eva explained the Jonas/Martha split. She explained that the two versions exist, because each version/branch is on predetermined path that through time travel ends up creating the other. Over and over again.
Is this maybe what has just happened in Tannhaus' world?
Tannhaus lost his son and granddaughter, which caused him to accidentally create two alternate worlds and everything therein. If not for that, then Jonas and Martha from those worlds couldn't have come back to his origin world at an earlier point in time to prevent it from happening in the first place and thereby creating this new branch where it didn't. Sure sounds like the signs of a time travel-induced bootstrap paradox to me. All that's missing to complete the circuit, which we for lack of information about this new branch cannot guarantee doesn't happen, is that this new branch ends up with somebody time traveling back and causing Tannhaus' son and granddaughter to crash and die. This would switch us over to the other branch again, which causes everything we just watched to happen again. The same quantum entanglement that Eva described. One branch to the other. over and over again.
Is this the real reason the people in that last scene are still experiencing the deja vus and information "bleed" from the erased worlds? Because they're erased and never got to happen on the timeline, in this branch. However, it could all still exist and take place in the other branch. Over and over and over... 😨😱🤢
