In this second part on narcissism, we discuss the emotional impact of relationships characterized by manipulation, fear, and devaluation. We focus on what happens when we begin to doubt ourselves, carefully measure our words, and set aside our own needs to avoid conflict.
Are we always the ones who apologize? Can we express our feelings without fear of the other person's reaction? Are we pushing away those who love us? How long do we wait for a different explanation to make them listen and understand us?
We reflect on the confusion, hypervigilance, isolation, and exhaustion caused by these dynamics in relationships, families, and other contexts. We share tools we explored in the episode: setting boundaries through our own actions, responding briefly and neutrally, documenting our experiences, and reducing emotional exposure. We also discuss the grief of lost expectations and the therapeutic support needed to rebuild trust.
We encourage ourselves to acknowledge the hurt without needing a label to justify what we feel. Our needs deserve attention, and seeking help can pave the way to taking care of ourselves again.
