Ireland’s oldest marching band, Churchill Flute Band, led the Londonderry’s Maiden City RBP No. 113 on their Annual Church Parade through the historic streets of the Old Walled City and onward to Saint Augustine’s Church of Ireland.
The weather was perfect, and after last year’s surprise, when the Church Service finished earlier than expected and we missed the start of the return parade, I made sure Luna and I were back in plenty of time. Ironically, this year the Service lasted the full hour.
Thankfully, Luna was well entertained. A few weans kept her busy playing ball, which meant she wasn’t getting bored while I got a break as we waited.
The return parade was shorter, but Churchill Flute Band didn’t hold back. Their music was as strong and steady as ever, and even when the parade reached its end, the band played on with a few extra verses before finishing with the National Anthem.
This Video was Filmed on the 23rd August 2026.
I broke my hand 3 weeks previously, so when recording this event. I tried using a smaller, lighter camera handle for my first time, but it created a bit of rattling sound and my cast touching the plastic didn't help. Luckily the volume of the band hinds most of it.
