After thorough analysis, can I confirm that Mega Darkrai is Peak Fiction? Absolutely! From its mesmerizing introduction in Pokémon Diamond, Pokémon Pearl, and Pokémon Platinum, to its awesome new Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends Z-A, Darkrai has had quite the astounding journey.
With its Signature Move Dark Void, this formidable Mythical Pokémon has left its mark, not just in the competitive scene, but in my memory as well!

Sinnoh’s Dark Type Legendary Pokémon has quite the storied history, one that I have come to respect. I immensely enjoy making these Peak Fiction entries, and Darkrai certainly deserves one.

You could say Mega Darkrai was a Nightmare Before Christmas.

Imma leave now...

Those who watched the Darkrai movie know that he is a real hero and means no harm

Dark Void was reworked in ZA, so hopefully that goes into Champions.

All Darkrai mean no harm, except that brat on PMD Explorers.

Darkrai when it finds unattended youths in Canalave town

I’ve played PMD Explorers, I’ve seen what an actually malicious Darkrai looks like, and most instances of Darkrai are NOT that

They turned him into a Kirby boss.

If you think the retractable legs are unsettling, wait until you see the concept art showing what's under its skirt-looking bits.

Darkrai is canonically caked tf up and I enjoy cursing people with this knowlege.

If I remember correctly, the "means no harm" part of the Pokedex entry is less "self-defense" and moreso a "passive ability" of sorts, as in it's not actively creating the nightmares.

No joke, long before this DLC was ever even conceptualized, I had a nightmare about something not unlike Mega Darkrai. A giant black eye, not unlike a hurricane with giant sweeping tentacles, whispering every slight, every insult, every negative thing ever uttered at me, and I couldn't stop staring at it. This is the second time in recent memory that a video game has copied one of my nightmares.

Idk darkrais entire bit is that it isn't intentionally harming anyone and deliberately avoids people for that purpose

We actually know for a fact that Tobias was created solely to defeat Ash in the Sinnoh League because of the Teraleak. The anime director actually wanted Ash to lose the Alola League as well.

Am I the only who finds Darkrai actually pretty cute? His blue eye contrasts very well with the rest of his color scheme and... I dunno, there's something kinda innocent in the way he looks at his trainer. Darkrai's always been my favorite Pokémon, I've always liked cool and edgy characters in fiction and I love it even more when they're just misunderstood guys with a hidden heart of gold like he is (especially the movie version. Or the Poképark 2, that was the first time I've seen him and they made him so peak!).

1:52 foreshadowing of doom and despair

Movie Darkrai: “can you all not be evil… for FIVE MINUTES?!”

Every other Darkrai: “nah.”

Tobias’ Darkrai: “But Movie, I’m not evil.”

Movie and others: “YOU DONT COUNT!”

Darkrai in Legends Arceus
"Man I love chilling on this mountain"

Darkrai in Legends Z-A
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHY AM I A F*CKING BLIMP AAAAAAAAAAAAA"

4:35 It doesn't only use the nightmares in self-defense. Sometiems, it can't control its powers and accidentally inflicts it on others it passes (which is likely little Timmy's case)

dark void was also changed in ZA, it now deals damage and heals the player, it is doubled in power against sleeping targets, and has a chance to sleep/ drowzy the opponent. Not sure if this change stays, obviously
