"You stole my original character."
original character is the most generic good guy imaginable.

A well known powerful hero who is privately a massive, ill tempered narcissist jackass is not an original character, it's Homelander.

The DM saw the character, and had an entire month to talk about any problem he had. But decided to be petty, and wait until the character was in the game before trashing him. What a child.

I have a story somewhat similar to this: a friend of mine played DND with his friends throughout high school, and he has a little brother. His brother, idolizing his older brother, wanted to play DND too, and his brother said, “ok, here’s a book in how to make a character sheet, make one and you can join!”. The little brother, who was about 7 or 8, made a sheet and joined. However, over the course of a few sessions, my friend began to realize his brother’s character was a LOT like one of his. Turns out the little brother stole and copied an old character sheet of his, and was playing as that character, but with a different name. My friend, being the SANE person he is, thought it was really cute, and didn’t say anything, and over time, his brother slowly tweaked the character into a different one. Same template, different outcome, and eventually my friend commissioned me to make a drawing of their characters, calling them “the twins”, and that’s how I know the story. It was super fucking cute, and his little brother loved it. They still play DND together, but the little brother has gotten good at making his own characters. :)

Bro, that DM didn't make an OC, he just made the average antagonist paladin in every anime with one

The funniest thing is that the "secretly narcissistic and flawed" part isn't referring to OP's character, its referring to this sad DM.

He is so mad about this perceived plagiarism. But from what we are told here, his campaign revolves around traveling around the world closing portals that connect our world to one that will destroy us.....

That's the plot of the main story line in oblivion...

"Waaahhhhh, you're stealing my completely unique OC"
Meanwhile the DM is blatantly just copying the plot of Elder Scrolls Oblivion

The fact that OP didn’t just call the DM out to his face infront of everyone is so annoying to me. How are you gonna just accept that level of disrespect on a weekly basis for months on end and not stick up for yourself?

Jeez, all that the DM needed to do to prevent his OC from being "stolen" was just to tell the player "your character is a bit too similar to an NPC I'm going to bring in later", and the player could have re-written the character to be themed around silver or bronze instead of gold or something.

Golden Paladin saying that they were comrades who should work together for righteousness, then threatening violence when laughed at by those 'comrades'.

What a noble and holy paragon.

One point for CritCrab; He mentioned his first character had died a month before to a Beholder. I think they are at the level where his backstory should be no problem.

The saddest thing is, the DM is most likely cheering within his own stupid little mind, thinking he actually accomplished something noteworthy, when all he likely did, was out himself as a whiny crybaby, and turned the table against him

15:09 "The golden knight had stopped him, with one hand on his shoulder, and another threatening him with his sword"

Wow, what a hero. 🙄

Oh no, my paladin wears gold armour. I guess I am also guilty of stealing that DMs OC.

The funny thing is that if OP and DM had actually collaborated and consented to it, a plot line surrounding two nearly identical golden knights but one is a narcissistic tool the people have disdain for while the other is truly a beloved hero of the people has alot of potential for a good storyline.

The funniest thing about this is that the suppedly "stolen" character concept is just "Generic Paladin"

The irony behind the GM's paladin lacking written narcissism is proven by how self absorbed the GM is about his character, GM just can't see past his rose-tinted glasses.

15:25 if I was the rogue, I would have taken the replacement wheel, walked over to the wagon I meant to rob the previous night, and swapped wheels. So we didn't technically leave the other wagon stranded, but we still stole from it. Just to prove a point.

If I were in the game, every time the goody two shoes put his hand on his sword as a threat, I would’ve said “What? Is the self proclaimed hero going to kill an unarmed opponent? That doesn’t sound very heroic of you. Just imagine what your followers would think.” I’m betting the DM would have a massive tantrum at throwing his shitty character back in his face
