¿Cuánto vale realmente tu cuadro? El problema de poner precio a nuestra obra

How much is a painting really worth? And how can we decide what price to ask for our work when someone wants to buy it?

This is one of the most common questions among painters who are starting to sell, participate in exhibitions, or receive their first commissions. Often, we don't follow a consistent pricing strategy: we look at what other artists charge, we think about the hours of work, the materials, the size of the piece... and in the end, we end up setting a price that simply seems reasonable.

But just because a work of art doesn't have an exact price doesn't mean its price has to be arbitrary.

In this video, I want to reflect with you on this issue from my experience as a painter, teacher, and after many years professionally involved in the art world.

We'll talk about why artists themselves find it so difficult to value their work economically, the importance of maintaining a certain consistency in our prices, the risks of constantly improvising, and something I consider fundamental: learning to establish criteria that allow us to approach selling our work with greater confidence and seriousness.

If you're starting to sell your paintings, preparing for an exhibition, have received a commission, or have simply ever been asked, "How much do you want for this painting?" and you weren't quite sure how to answer, you'll probably relate to many of the situations we discuss in this video.

I'm particularly interested in hearing about your experiences.

How do you currently calculate the price of your artwork?
Do you follow any specific criteria?
Are you worried about asking for too much or too little?
Who do you think should set the price of a piece: the artist, a gallery owner, the market...?

I'll be reading your comments.
