On October 26, 1942, during the Battle of Guadalcanal, Marine Platoon Sergeant Mitchell Paige faced a collapsing defensive line after the men in his machine-gun section were killed or wounded. This documentary follows the desperate fight near Henderson Field as Paige moved from gun to gun, keeping the weapons firing while Japanese forces pressed through the American perimeter. His resistance could not stop an entire offensive by itself, but it helped buy critical time until Marine reinforcements arrived, restored the line, and joined Paige in a counterattack that prevented the breakthrough. The story examines Paige’s Medal of Honor action, the role of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, and the tactical importance of heavy machine guns during one of the most intense phases of the Guadalcanal campaign.
