The story of the Dwarves in Middle Earth can be aptly described as "Build great hall and good times", "Lose great hall and bad times". Rinse and repeat but with a slightly less glorious peak and you have the Dwarves in the Third Age.

It's so neglected and forgotten about that even Sauron's forces never knew it existed. Dwarven Gondolin by pure accident.

After the war, the Dwarves moved back to Moria, telling themselves "what are the odds that there's a second Balrog in the deep?"

The iron hills are so obscure They didnt even get attacked during the war of the ring

Its hard not like the dwarves. I love the story of the Iron Hills. I'm oddly reminded of Noah's Ark, but instead of a wooden boat, it is these hills that kept Dwarven civilization and culture alive across these many hardships and cultural collapses. If not for the Iron Hills, maybe the Dwarves would have been set back to the state of the Petty Dwaves, which the elves didn't recognize as people!

I can only imagine that the iron hills are the equivalent of an industrial city, which is why the kings would not like to make their capital in fantasy Sheffield or Wollongong.

"To make sure he really gets his point across, Smaug gets shot."

Brilliant line 😂

People complained about the hobbit a lot but nothing as much as how fast Dain and his Iron Foot dwarves got to erebor. Nobody bothered to look how far apart these dwarven strongholds were. If they had they'd understand why it took a single day.

Dain may have lived in the Iron Hills his whole life, but rules are rules, so once he became King he had to move and never go back.

For anyone curious, the Dwemer of Elder Scrolls are called Dwarves because they worked with the Giants, who gave them that name.

The kings of Durin's line probably didnt go back to the Iron Hills to avoid a power struggle.

Dwarves at human height would still have the proportions of Dwarves, which I'd imagine would make them come off as hyper-advanced neanderthals.

Dwarves everywhere else: It’s happening
Dwarves in Iron Hills: Nothing ever happens

Because iron Hills main resource is iron and not any precious metal or rare stone as well as being far to the east and well off the beaten track. Makes it a superb and decent refuge for the dwarves during all of the first three ages.

The excitement is real... another slam dunk for the Tolkien detective!

The ''Weather Hills'' were apparently originally called the "Hills of the Wind" in Sindarin, so basically, yeah.

You'd really think kingdoms literally dug inside mountains would be safer...

POV: You're a dwarven kingdom and just met the "Last" eldritch monster

@Enzo012 11 months ago

A really tall dwarf could be about 5ft 6 so that's well in the human range. That would be fairly exceptional height for a dwarf though.

The Iron Hills apart from iron, lacked the resources that the other places had. You could say the Iron Hills and the Grey Mountains were the equivalent of a small town while places like Erebor and Khazad-Dhum were like the big cities.
