Like many firefighters who survived September 11th, Josh Calacanis carries a lot of guilt. He had asked to go home early that morning to take care of his 18-month-old daughter. Engine 212 was one of the first to respond to the attacks, and he learned later that day that the firefighters from his company were on the missing list. His first thought was, “I might have killed this guy because he was working for me.” Eventually, Calacanis went into therapy, which he believes saved his life. He’s now on the Board of Directors of Friends of Firefighters, providing free mental health and wellness care for the FDNY and their families.
Hear him share his 9/11 story with Q104.3 FM’s Shelli Sonstein. Barasch & McGarry - Lawyers for the 9/11 Community is honored to sponsor ‘9/11 Stories: Remembering September 11th, 2001’, along with the FealGood Foundation. Tune in every week for a new episode.
