This TV show was the reason why I fell in love with the game of golf. When they did a slow motion clip of one of the pro’s swing and broke it down I learned so much. I was a teenager at the time during the ‘60s which is when I began watching this show. Lots of fun memories.
I remember these days so well. The commercials told of a different time. Today life is so much more complicated….our lives have become so disappointing…..we still have great golf. The professional golfer today is far more identical not so much individual.
George Archer was a great golfer. I watched him at the Buick open in the early 80s. He made the game look painful. The way he bent over on his iron shots seemed so uncomfortable. He was limping about the course, even as a kid I sorry for his discomfort. However, he seemed so happy that he had a gallery. George was a huge man with great strength. Yet, he had the mind of a golfer.
Thanks for this! Increased power and precision can only follow instinctive balance, rhythm, and spine safety. Thanks for showing us how, Mr. Knudson. Imagine how many flagsticks he would hit with today's equipment.
I love watching the guys chip and run the ball around the greens with 7 and 8 irons. That is how I learned to play and is something you just don’t see much of anymore. Likely due to the faster speeds of the greens today.
I met George Archer at a small driving range in San Martin, CA in the early 90's. We were on the putting green and he noticed that we both marked our golf balls the same way and same color. Nice friendly man. Wish I would have gotten his autograph but I didn't want to bother him. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded though. RIP George.
I noticed George Archer had a heel toe ping type putter, I didn't know they had them back then in 1970, just blades. my first putter was a bull's eye like George Knudson has.
As has been often said about Knudson, he was a brilliant ball striker, Trevino puts him up with Hogan. If only he could putt well, no telling how much he could have won.

A wonderful display of striking. A rare glimpse at the talent of Lee Elder.
