man that part about leaving the bike complete and not in a hundred peices is so true. just ended up selling the bike all the motivation ran out. great great tip

I normally do the tyres very near the end of the build, as if it takes 2 or 3 years, as one of mine did, you have 2 or 3 year old tyres,
I normally get the frame done and while that's away get a load of parts cleaned and re-built like callipers, suspension, engine, I can then look at the nice clean parts and imagine them on the finished bike. When the frame as I have those parts ready its sort of like a re-assembly job and in a couple of days it can look like you've made a lot of progress, always a load of snags to deal with before completion, but at least you're looking at what looks like a nearly complete bike.
The carbs advice is spot on, I thought I'd thoroughly cleaned a set of carbs, only to find the bike ran badly, so kept chasing other issues, finally took them off again and found a slightly blocked pilot jet, once sorted turned into one of the sweetest running easiest starting bikes I've had.

I replaced my jis carb bowl screws with stainless socket head cap screws. I don't need to keep other tools now.

I love the Two days at a time, it's slow but it works and the wife isn't mad at your bike taking up all this space in the garage. For me it helps as I practice tearing apart the basic components and gives me time to save up one MOD at a time. If I don't like a mod I work to undo it and no harm no foul.

I remember when you were posting on reddit, to get this channel started 🎉

I always try to have the next bike have 2-3 things I havent tried before. Last was custom gas tank and custom cables.
Next is engine swap, and custom analog gauge[s].

Love your work. I thought this was gonna be a video of you talking cafe racer design philosophies, but these were actually just really good tips for almost any project, bike, car, boat...

Currently facing a 1981 GSX 250... fuel in oil, melted wiring, crumbling plastic connectors... so far ive cleaned the carbs and drained the tank, working on new wiring for BASIC ignition, then I will feel mor comfortable starting to take of the tape and screw bits in, needs some sanding and spraying too. $300 for it and its a looker!

Fun fact about JIS screwdrivers - if you have a Japanese bike & it still has the factory tool kit , the screwdriver in it is likely to be a JIS (yes even those weird double ended ones with the detachable handle)

When you started with a bank of 4 carbs, I thought the tip was going to be "never disassemble all your carbs at the same time" :) :)

Great tips Dan. A couple of your tips in past videos is to always label everything and take photos or video before and during the strip down and put the bits into bags and label them too. So will the next video be about brakes, bleeding replacing seals etc. It sounds easy enough to do but can be easy to bugger up and you end up with no brake or very soft brakes.
