We continue our journey through the armed forces of NATO, and today we arrive at the member that fits the template the least of any we have covered so far: the Republic of Turkey. Until now, our episodes have shared a convenient organizing principle. Finland, Poland, the Baltic States, each of them built its army around a single adversary to the east, and it made sense to measure everything, doctrine, procurement, mobilization, against the prospect of a Russian attack. More controversially, but it also made sense to compare them with Ukraine. Turkey breaks that frame entirely.
