Funny thing is. Between the sundering and the exile of the highborne, 2000 years have passed. About as much as the entire existence of the Arathi empire.

Maybe in those 2000 years, this group of elves chose not to fully abandon nature for the arcane and went a middle way.

AngelikaTosh looked at the visual design and felt that it was actually more suited to Cataclysm.  I find it believable that the Skyborne were actually Cataclysm content that cut before being developed.  And then someone found it in an old file and didn't understand it's origin.

There is also the classic mythology element, air elementals in European Mythology were often fae or elf-like beings known as Sylphs and while a true fae isn't really present in WoW air elves with racials related to air feel very fitting for emulating Sylphs into WoW.

0:32  I thought these were going to be high elves who survived the Scourge in mountain sky lodges when they first leaked. I’m so disappointed

If they are going to follow through this, they need to add new air specialization trees to mage and shaman.

it really feels like a way they plan to have retail's blood elf and Void Elves eventually have druid, shaman and paladin for void elf specifically more than a real race... or they may add it to retail later but wanted to see how people would feel about adding another elf race. personally, i dont mind as i just still see them as high elves with a different tattoo. but i would still like them to eventually address the list of races people have been asking for years. While some i dont personally care about like Ogres or Tuskar I think we all should be able to be what we want in Wow and they should start looking at some of the ones that were heavily teases recently to see if they can be added- like Saberon, Amani Trolls, and some kind of way to give real high elves.

Just give us Nagas Blizzard, or at least true High Elves.

1:20 I'm only playing if they develop this concept with the High Elves and Blood Elves. This Sky Elf stuff seems like a test run and build up for Silvermoon and Quel Thalas Civil War.

i don't love them but i do think they managed to tie them to lore very well, i liek the idea of it

dude this was spot on!  the fact that critical role is in todays panel right now, is proof that they had some influence on their lore

I was excited to have blood elf model on classic for once, but then the paywall nation attacked and the hype plummeted... If my guild goes alliance then I play night elf or human warrior, if horde then it's troll warrior

All i wanted was alliance high elves. 😢

wow’s elemental planes are more interesting as places where non-elementals couldn’t possibly live imo. which is why I prefer the representations from cata.

When I saw them I thought Blizzard was going  back to their roots ripping off Warhammer Fantasy. Pretty sure they elves in Warhammer fantasy live on a floating island.

their opening intro say high elven, not highborne. So probably after their devolution, I think it is more akin to the northrend 'quel'dorei' from crystal song forest. Though you never know tbh, it's not even beta yet.
Also kinda gives me skywing elves from dragon prince, which I adore.

Low effort + your wallet

Ogres please

More elves! Just what we needed!!
Why pick already exsisting races people have asked for for years?
Why not just add Bloodelves and Worgen? Both coming form places in Azeroth and have been there for years!
Nah, we need new elves...that's what we need!

They pulled skybourne out of their asses and paywalled it. If you are going to add elves back in, why not just have high elves and blood elves? Such odd choices.

I knew only one new race meant its both faction but why would they fight each other ? I really would like some sort of civil war that would justify the availability for both factions
