After years of requests, I finally cut a pair of Rick Owens Geobaskets in half to answer one question: is this $1,265 designer sneaker actually high quality, or just another hyped-up luxury shoe selling you a name? The quick answer: This is the rare designer shoe where the upper is genuinely good — real full-grain calfskin (1.2–1.5mm), better than the leather on almost any Nike, New Balance, or other sneaker we've cut, and it took 132 lbs in the puncture test. The lining is decent leather too. I'm still gonna keep buying Rick, I fell in love with the original dunk in 2007 after seeing them on the superfuture message boards and have been obsessed with his style ever since. I looked for years for a cheaper alternative since his stuff is so pricey, but nothing else quite does it for me aesthetically
Proof that even Rose Anvil, who literally has a series about calling out marketing BS and double-speak, can be guilty of inflating their product by using language that implies it’s more premium than it is.
1: the price continually quoted in this video is not the price of standard geobaskets, but of the special "mega geobaskets" that are much larger than the standard edition
2: the shoes shown in this video are also not standard geobaskets, but the "megabumper" variation, featuring an extended platform midsole. this one shouldn't effect much, but may factor into the construction of the midsole.
also, was expecting some commentary about the durability of the sole, as heel drag is a notorious issue among the Rick Owens community
