One problem I have with Defiant that The Pig didn't bring up is that it's built to fight Borg Cubes, which is like fighting a brick wall. So they designed a ship with all its guns up front to do old school dogfighting. Defiant is pretty much doing strafing runs against ground targets when attacking a Cube, meaning it has to approach while firing and then turn around and fly away to not crash into the Cube and set up for another run. And all its guns are in the front. It spends half the engagement with its back to the enemy and not firing. Defiant should be relatively long and narrow with a bunch of centerline guns so it can circle a Cube firing constantly, not a pancake that can only fire in the same direction it's flying in. That's something that's always bothered me.

The Defiant being called Sisco's Pimp Hand is a reference to the SFDebris Star Trek videos.

SFDebris is a real one, one of the OG video creators that kept going to this day.

He has covered almost all of Star Trek in humourous recaps that gives alternative personalities to the captains. Picard is a neatness freak afraid of children. Janeway of Borg - the mad scientist that kidnapped he whole crew. Sisco who's basically Shaft in space.

Fun stuff.

He got his muffin fix for the day.

A frustrated Lazerpig sounding constipated is always hilarious. Especially because he is correct. I barely noticed time was passing as I watched it all.

The workstation in each cabin makes perfect sense. The Federation has 50 officers for every enlisted man, and we all know what that means: Powerpoint. The workstation is where they work on their Powerpoint decks.

In DS9, that IS all holodecks are used for. And in Lower Decks, they actually mention the poor sod who has to decon the holodeck.

Picard kept that flute & it occasionally popped up in future episodes also the Excelsior & Miranda variants outlived many more modern classes.

Waiting for his reaction when we get to the Daisy Ridley section.............and there it is.

I mean, the LCS class shows real-life militaries can also build ships that tear themselves apart at full power.

The Muffin Button? Wow I hadn't thought of that part of DBZA in years.

Being highly versatile is also why the Dark Angels of WH40k could reliably face most opponents they aren't 1st in any category of war but they are at WORST 5th place in those same categories; it doesn't hurt that they also have more Great Crusade equipment then the next chapter, save for the Salamanders, the Dark Angels can still field Fellglaive Super Heavy Tanks when other chapters probably haven't even seen 1 in person.

I love the intro. We stan LazerQuail in this household XD

Also, as a longtime Trekkie, I was indignant with the thesis until I learned about the warhead and the spaghetti layout inside.

24:40 Why? Because the writers were hacks and the producers were cowards.

Halfway through LazerPig's video, I had guessed that he would eventually circle back to the fact that Star Trek is a TV show and the Defiant was designed by writers and not engineers. I have to say that if he didn't, I would be disappointed.

"The gods Intervened, bevouse they know better" lol

"...tom paris is inside all of us..." and his lovly captain.

I fully agree with Pig, Acclamator class, whatever we are talking about Republican Acclamator-I or Imperial Acclamator-II variants, is the best Star Wars designed space craft.

This big well armed transport was used as planetary assault ship, starfighter carrier, mobile hospital, repair ship, command ship, mobile laboratory, long range communication ship, makeshift planetary fortress, improvised orbital defence station, prisoner transport ship, fleet support ship and in at least two occasions as massive VIP ship.

Unlike Ventor and Victory classes, the Empire still kept Acclamator class in large numbers and even secured decommissioned ships in reserve, instead of scrapping them for metal.
Some were sold/donated to Imperial allies (such as Corporate Sector) and unarmed/less armed ships were even sold for civilian use.

And the best part about Acclamator class, beside its brilliant design, reasonable armament, modular construction and great communication is the fact under critical circumstances this 700 meters long ship can be operated by 5 or 6 crew members.
For comparison, Imperial-II class star destroyer needs at least 2000 crew members to operate on bare minimum.
Victory-II class required 450.

44:26. Phase Cannons were on the NX-class. The Defiant had pulsed phaser cannons which are souped up versions of the rollbar phasers the Reliant used in Star Trek II. Basically over-charged burst fire bolt pattern instead of a continuous beam.

1:17:34 this concept exists in fighting in general. It's why you'll see a martial artist get dogwalked by someone with no training occasionally. The training locks you into patterns of thought the opponent lacks.

I love the concept of Enterprise, the small ship in a big universe. They don't have backup, or an extensive network of starbases and they don't have inexplicable space magic to get them out of a fix simply by reversing the flow of the whatsis into the thingamabob. Sadly it ended before we got to see the Earth-Romulan War which could have been a Dominion War II.

Its interesting that Lazerpig uses STO footage for this when the game even created the Jupiter, a Starfleet carrier that launches Calisto frigates (basically a Defiant expy launched in squads of 4) that basically solves all the problems with the Defiant as a multi-mission ship. The Jupiter serves as the tender while the Calistos are the wolfpack around it

The most simple definition of Drama I like to use is "A plan goes wrong"
By that merit the Defiant is PEAK Drama.
