Starlight’s bangs more resembled the “=“ sign, while her new hairstyle resembles her real cutie mark more

Realized the fluttershy heart thing when you first mentioned it and i was like
"Wait a minute...
Dear Celestia!"

"A lot of people can remember when they realized fluttershy's mane does a heart" yeah, it's right now

edit: I love noticing a typo a full day later
edit2 : editing it removes the creator like? huh? I can see why but weird

One thing I don't see touched on very often is the fact that the FiM character designs specifically have MANE styles, as opposed to HAIR styles. That is to say, all the hair originates from a single line going down the head and back of the neck, like on real horses. A lot of G5 designs (and something you also see a lot in OC designs) is that the hairstyles are more human-like in that they cover the entire scalp and don't go down the neck that much if at all. There's nothing WRONG with either method, but it is interesting how much variation they were able to get with something that was more "accurate" to actual horses and ponies.

3:39 rarity actually has 2 colours, they’re just both purple. If you look closely you see there’s a different, warmer shade

The red ribbon thing for AJ is so funny to me because yes she kicks because it’s her job but I also thought about how her solution to everything is just to kick it so I like to think at a certain age her parents gave her that because she was as the ribbon says “prone to kicking.”

Also if we didn’t already have Daring Do on the cover of the book it would be my biggest headcannon that RD made the protagonist look like her in her imagination.

Fun fact about Zecora's mohawk: this is also correct to zebras. Zebra manes tend to be far stiffer and stand up straight compared to horse or pony manes. In Equestria, an Earth-accurate zebra mane would probably look like a mohawk.

3:10 I always loved the idea that Unicorns that become Alicorns get the flowy hair, but Pegusai that become Alicorns get large gradient wings.

3:20 That is a confirmed part of actual doppelganger lore.  They cannot perfectly copy hair.

0:16 I did not know Fluttershy’s mane forms a heart! 😳🥺
It is a very interesting video, focusing on horses’, or at least ponies’ manes? 🤔

4:21 you should also mention: Her old hairstyle resembled her old life and "cutie mark", that being the equal sign. The redemption haircut is styled like her real cutie mark to show how she got over equality.

3:55 I always thought she looked like that in season 1 because her body was like,, trapped within her nightmare form and had become frail and ill

1:45  I can remember where I was when I learned that!  It was here, about a minute and thirty seconds ago.

Cozy Glow's mane style did not give the picture of innocence to any of us that watched Batman the Animated series and saw the character Baby Doll. Similar hair style, solidly the villain.

9:43 A little fun fact from real life: I think it's something similar with us having a person we look up to, we even unconsciously start to mimic them and it can also show up by not only mannerisms but also hairstyle.

5:10 A proven fact that Twilight Sparkle can rock any mane style.

You know, Celestia's might be the hardest to animate, but if you look very closely at around 2:36, you can see that they only animate it once. The only thing they're reanimating with the character is just behind their neck, basically where it meets the model. The wavy bit doesn't turn with them, it just kind of............. does its wiggly thing unless it's the focus and doing something unusual, which is not often.

it’s definitely really funny seeing how far they progressed with minor character individuality over the course of FIM, especially with regards to hair. in S1, everypony is a minuette, lemon hearts, or some other pony recolor. by later seasons, one-off or minor characters got totally unique hairstyles that were often more detailed than the mane 6. i always think about how in S1E1 lemon hearts and twinkleshine had the same haircut since they were only in the show for all but 5 seconds. so when they were brought back in amending fences they had to keep the same hairstyles, even though they probably would’ve got a more unique look like moondancer had they been designed for that episode

i didn't know people struggle with rarity's hair. makes me wish i'd refined my pony drawing skills more, 'cuz the hair was almost always the easiest part for me. i struggle with matching the cute spaces and proportions of the bodies, though, so i guess god had to nerf me in other ways to balance it out

I like the detail of Rarity's hair being two different shades of purple/blue. It's like her hair makes light refract yk like a gem
