Let me know if you like the format.
More art, less walking.

“How did it end up rationalizing everything in ways that make no sense?” It’s because your predecessor would not accept simple answers, Mark, and it was -awful-.

I love this dive into Jade Empire. I love how you went into a lot of detail. Hope to see more of these.

Jade Modern sounds like it would be very unique even now. There are urban fantasy games, but most of them aren't built on top of a traditional fantasy setting like Jade Modern was. I've wanted to make something like that for a while.

Crazy sad. Very conflicting given how successful Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 turned out to be.

Man, this feels like it could have been something pretty incredible, with that kind of setting alone. Echoing the sentiment of another poster, I was equally bummed when I heard you were departing Bioware. After having watched a lot of this channel, your way of thinking, and approach toward things, I feel aligns rather closely to what I would aspire to in the industry. Always a great watch.

9:30 - I think we hadn't moved on from it being Jade 2 but wanted to call it something else for a working title to free the writers and artists to explore ideas that were being shot down because of the lens we were using. I recall the plan was still to have the big reveal at the end of the game to be the emperor and that in face Revolver was Jade 2 in disguise

Fascinating, in depth look at a project sadly lost to time. And while I'm super excited for DA4 and ME5, JE2 would be an RPG DREAM of mine. That said, I think BioWare getting fresh blood lately is much needed bc the BW formula was becoming somewhat troubled and difficult to sustain. (Though I'll always miss you, Casey, Dave, Fernando...EVERYONE) DA4 will either be BioWare reclaiming its throne or its loss of the true BioWare magic. My fingers are crossed. (And ngl, I know it's unfair but...I did feel a bit betrayed when Casey and you just up and left before either MELE OR DA4 had launched. I'm emotional like that, forgive me.)

Thanks for this look into what JE2 would have been. At the ME3 launch party, I said to Casey that the real question was when JE2 was coming out. He just sheepishly smiled and deflected 🙃

MAN this was such an interesting video! It is SUCH a shame we never got to see a Jade Empire sequel! Outstanding work on this video Mark!

Jade Empire is my favorite game of all time and i'll never get to see a sequel. sad

ty so much darrah

Thank you! I liked the: Its a wizard! -Part   so much :) You really should make games again

Jade Modern isnt what I wanted when I wanted a sequel, more of the same is what I want.

Somehow the title to this episode got Jim Croce's Photographs & Memories stuck in my head (it's a lovely song, not complaining!)

A lot to unpack here. Thank you for being honest about the restrictions that EA placed upon BW. It's something that we've seen and deduced, but you really spoke about it honestly and usually we don't get that information from the source because nobody wants to lose their job. I know it's probably not worth it for you to talk about right now, or maybe ever, but I wonder whether this acquisition was good for either the employees of BW or for the fans. It seems like neither, tbh. Revolver seems like such a loss, and I'm sorry that it never went further.

Possibility to check project documents, would be amazing.

Great video. Out of curiosity, was Jade Empire 2 originally set to be published by Microsoft on the 360 before EA acquired BioWare?

So, Shadowrun is a fairly popular RPG setting.  In the 2010s (in setting) magic returns to the world.  Dragons show up (and become CEOs, because what is an account in the Caymans if not the modern equivalent of a horde?); regular people start turning into elves, dwarves, orcs, trolls and so on; indigenous peoples suddenly discover that some of their most ancient rituals have magical power now, and are able to use that to retake some measure of control over their homelands - and none of this requires any real explanation beyond "magic is back - and we don't know why it vanished in the first place or how it returned".

it's kinda heartbreaking when you put your heart into something that'll never be seen to fruition.
