1:34 "Vitality healing and Vitality damage are different things.
The Heal spell just happens to do both." - me when this comes up

This is so helpful. This came up during my last PFS event last weekend when we were fighting some skeletons and the cleric used the 3 action heal spell. It definitely caused some confusion for one of the new players.
This video will definitely help in the future.

I didn’t realize I could heal undead with Soothe.
Good to know.

I played in a table with a Dhampir Rogue and had to learn fast how to keep her alive. Even picked up Bard Dedication on my good Champion for Soothe.

This was something our Kingmaker witch always had to stay aware of! She was a construct and her bear familiar was undead!

This video contained Vital information! It was not de-Void of value!!

I'll see myself out...

And before anyone mentions Nudge the Scales: Nudge the Scales specifically calls it out that it's vitality healing like "as normal for a living creature" and the Void Healing ability. It's all packaged together.

So no, it's not a weird case of where an Undead player is Healed by Vitality Healing, Hurt by Vitality Damage, Immune to Void Damage and Void Healing.

(So not confusing...)

*See the title* Well NOW I’m scared I’m doing it wrong…

Edit: No, I got this it one. 😂❤

I had a funny adventure in pathfinder 1e. Our wizard was dying and to save him we made him drink healing potion. What we didn't know at the time, that wizard was an undead in disguise. Not only potion didn't heal him, but it made 1d4 damage that finished him off.

This definitely comes up more frequently among tables that played a lot of 1E Pathfinder, as the damage/healing effects were innate to what was then Positive/Negative energy and otherwise were called out if Positive didn't heal living and harm undead or vice versa. I know that I still need to occasionally remind others at the table of this, but it usually only comes up when a Void effect may include or target an Undead and not explicitly state that the effect actually heals them in any way, such as the vast majority of Void spells only dealing damage and providing no healing, or occasionally if a Vitality effect specifically says it does damage and I need to remind them that only effects a living creature if it explicitly says so (such as being in Creation's Forge for too long can cause even living entities to incinerate from excess Vitality infusion)

yeap, I made the wrong assumption that vitality lash could potentially heal a dhampir infinitely with a cantrip and thought this is kinda broken...luckily my player decided to go with a flavorful approach by giving his character a taint of undead energy coursing through him rather than becoming full dhampir

I think a lot of it came from an outdated assumption from older versions, where positive and negative energy always work in opposite ways on living and undead creatures.

Yup.. needed this. Been doing it wrong... thanks!

This was a great video and as someone who is hoping to get into PF2, I anticipate that it will make things easier for me. :) Thank you!

Good summary of the differences!

Thank you for this video as i prepare to play a skeleton cleric with a dhampir buddy and two alive characters, as we're off to fight a lich.

At least we're not saying "You take 5 negative damage" anymore

Interesting. I thought I had this topic pretty well sorted but then I watched the video and realized I made some assumptions that were incorrect. I guess I should read these spells more carefully.

Very clear discussion. Thanks for pointing this out.

amazing video man. Keep doing great as you do.

Very enlightening. Thank you!
