What I loved about Rugby in 1985 was that you could go to a big game and the atmosphere was made by the crowd, not killed by the tannoy.

The referee, M Palmardd, was the undoubted Star of The Show. Ditto Linesmen!

Very lively 😮❤

Bob Norster, a Welsh hero. How many 2 handed catches do you see nowadays even with all the lifting.

Welshman here: I think Nigel Melville would have been one of the great England scrum halves if his career hadn't been cut short by a freak injury (I think he hit his ankle hard on the old wooden pitch surround at Twickenham). He had a great pass - straight off the ground like all great scrum halves -  could kick with both feet and was quick. A shame for him and England that he had to retire from the game (if memory serves correctly!).

Interesting looking back to see the beginnings of the great England team of 91/92double GS fame - Andrew, Underwood and Dooley for starters. Plus Paul Dodge of 1980 fame coming to the end of his career.

A glimpse...❤❤❤

Dooley punched the gate attendants on the way in to warm up.

Still singing then but coming to ed of the days of great atmosphere. Now can't even remember hymns and arias

The Garryowen....... up to the twenty two....... hands like frying pans.........

Referee was my man of the match 😂😂😂

Palmade the French referee always seemed to be the referee in the 1980s

Presumably these days Dooley would walk up to Norstar and accuse him of committing a non-crime hate incident.

Amazing Ringer got sent off for a Finger tip, Orwin stays on for a blind punch in front of   Everyone, Palmade was an Excellent referee.

Proper scrumaging and line outs

Rob Andrew.....

A Scottish guy writes, top player was Rob Andrew

maybe don't put the result in the title
