11:23 spoiling a chapter that has been out for years from a book that is not out yet may be the most morally grey action in this video

1:22:55 Definitely agree with this. There's a thing in military command where subordinate officers are supposed to be given the commander's intention along with their orders, so that they can know how to respond to unexpected developments in a way that serves the overall battle plan. In the pre-radio days of written orders being sent by courier, this was even more important, since subordinate officers might have to operate for extended periods on their own judgement, without being able to consult their commander - like Edmure was at the mill.

The best historical commanders had a great grasp of this. Alexander the Great famously held pre-battle conferences while on the march, where he explained his plan in detail to all his officers, and had them memorize what amounted to a flowchart of orders - "if X happens, do Y" for a bunch of contingencies. Whereas many failed operations have been the result of vague or confusing orders being passed down to officers who then acted in a way that was different from what the commander really wanted.

That latter case is what we see with the mill. Robb gives Edmure a specific order that he expects to be followed, but doesn't tell him anything about the intentions of the overall plan or how to respond to unexpected situations. So when Edmure seizes upon an opportunity and tries to destroy Gregor's force, he really has no way to know that he's going against Robb's plan, because Robb didn't do a good job of issuing orders. I think a major point of Robb's story is that he's this storybook hero at first glance, but he's actually too inexperienced and impetuous to handle the more mundane tasks of a leader, and that is what undoes him.

it's gotten to the point you don't even have to mention it's a collab, it's just expected at this point, love that for you two

I want to see a 12 hour analysis about whether each character would return a shopping cart or leave it in the parking lot.

I like how the discussion goes from "It's mostly vibes but if you murder someone extrajudicially you're evil" to "Bowen Marsh tho" in the course of like 5 minutes.

ASOIAF community: These books have properly three dimensional characters.

GlideSchwift: Time to make them literally fucking two dimensional 😈🕺🕺

Brienne of Tarth and Euron Greyjoy being diametrically opposing forces on this chart still amuses me, simply because I keep imagining what an interaction between the two would be like.

"You can live your whole life, operating by a certain set of moral principles... but the one day you do something out of the ordinary and extreme, that could be what defines you forever."

Jaime Lannister: DON'T I KNOW IT!

Bowen freaking out about having to kill Jon immediately parallels the assassination of Caesar again because that is basically what happened with the conspiracy. They wanted to wait and plan but Caesar revealed that he was about to go on campaign so they only had a few days to decide when and where to do it.

Whoever put the chapter marks in here is a saint. I fell asleep at Bowen marsh and picking back up where I left off in the morning is so easy

I've been hurting mentally very bad for the past 2 days but I saw that Glidus released a video with Alt Shift X's worst enemy and suddenly I feel a sense of innocent elation in my soul

Obviously Roose is fine with Ramsey killing his son, because he only needs one heir to warg into on his deathbed.

Oh I'm here for this Bowen Marsh un-slander.

It's still so funny that schwift has no idea how lawful works everytime

i think they've permanently changed the community view of bowen marsh

Honestly I’ve never thought of Bowen Marsh from his POV. This is absolutely captivating now that I think about all the missteps jon made in distancing perhaps the most loyal man to the watch

1:52:18 I’m fairly certain that when it came to Aemon being offered to be king, he responded with “I am a maester, I can’t be king” and people told him that they could bend the rules for him, but he then decided that he was gonna join the nightswatch to have TWO oaths keeping him from being king, because he was so loyal to keeping his vow as a maester, and that that’s the reason why he joined the nightswatch. He didn’t want anyone to make him betray his maester vow so he made it harder for them to try and excuse breaking that vow

Roose/Petyr ship name proposal: LittleLeech

I just finished reading Fevre Dream and it suddenly hit me. The main character of Fevre Dream is Abner Marsh, a very ordinary man, prone to stubbornness who is used to being master of his own small kingdom who defines his identity by his role in the stewardship of the thing he’s devoted his life to. However, over the course of the book he finds himself forced to choose what really matters when the outside politics come crashing in on him, in the form of a charismatic messiah figure who opens the doors to forces bigger than anything he ever dreamed.

Doesn’t that description start to remind you of another character also named…Marsh?

I think one of the big differences between Roose Bolton's evil and Euron Grayjoy's evil is that Roose has other things going on. Roose can't make being evil a full time job becourse he's got a house to run and a son to keep in check and vassels to keep off his back, all of which are things he needs to keep running smoothly to be able to do all the evil things he wants to be doing.
