Great question and an insightful answer from Mikael. I like how he acknowledged that he's 'the wrong guy to ask' since he isn't up to date on newer trends but still gave his personal thoughts on them 😊

Hearing Mikael say "Limp Bizkit" made me smile. Goodnight.

It looks like he's sitting in an inflatable pool.

Mike is a big music lover. Classic metal like Priest. The roots of death metal. David Vincent his fav harsh vocalist. Then he moved on to new fascinations, which you can clearly see that influence in the music he made.

I was always a classic hard rock guy. Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc. But I like metalcore. Crossover of punk and metal. Makes me feel young.

The first Korn album is still heavy as hell when I listen to it today.

To be fair. I would have been fine if he answered with "shut the fuck up" like he did in the 2007 roundhouse tapes. What an awesome gig that was

The biggest change for me was the rise of metalcore. The metal festivals don't really change and have a little bit of everything generally speaking.

Which era of metal that Mikael discussed do you resonate with most?

Age or not that's going to happen to most people that are in a full time band with long touring

Been there since my 80s childhood. You're always going to have trends & subgenres. As a listener, I've always tried to navigate through the many choices to find something that "speaks" to me, my ears, my rhythmic senses, my soul, etc... regardless of genre. The problem is the amount of carbon copy bands these days. A lot of albums require repeat listens for the music to eventually click & a lot of these bands just don't have the substance.

As great as he is .. he is so humble so effin humble .. the guy was able to beat all him musical influences by his work and amazing music .. u ask a guy that did the miracle of Opeth about smelly garbage I so effin feel sorry he was asked that question… they are huge cuz they are mainstream metal audience and we all know what mainstream taste is !!
