I'm fed up with my Smart TV... It's slow, there's ads everywhere, and it's literally incapable of playing content at full quality! So, in this video I try out budget streaming boxes to make my experience snappier, easier to use, and better quality!

Educating people on the ONN cheaper option and app options to make it usable is a top tier move. Big thumbs up.

I bought a used Xbox One S for $110. It can stream in 4k but also has a built in 4K UHD Blu-ray player. I don't even intend to play games on it, but having the option is a nice bonus.

I use a mini-PC & wireless keyboard with touchpad. TV has no internet access to prevent ACR.
I installed all my own streaming software on Linux, can watch YT & other streaming websites with ad+sponsor blockers, play internet radio, use Kodi, stream from the NAS, run torrents etc, play games, all in 4K.
I don't use or need any streaming services so don't care about native apps.
My PS3 (still going strong) is my Blu-ray player.

And don't forget physical media. That thing is important too. 💪📼📀

I've read elsewhere that many folks are going the ONN route to avoid Roku's ever changing and ever tightening terms of service. Also because ONN has the ability to side load apps easily.

Smart TV's also spy on you - There is a legal case in california where they are suing a TV manufacturer for taking 7200 photos every hour

20 dollars. The Walmart onn boxes are INCREDIBLE Plex Clients. Many of my remote family members that use my plex server have them and they can decode ANYTHING.

When i realised that the company has more control on the Smart TV than myself, i went back as fast as possible to tv box

ShieldTV from many years ago still running strong.

If you're getting an Onn streaming box, get the Onn 4k plus -- it has faster hardware than the model above or below. There's a reason it keeps selling out.

I bought an Apple TV in 2014. It’s still running.

We’ve bought multiple more and the only things we’ve ever “replaced” have been the remotes bc the old ones were shit.

The deal breaker for me isn't convenience, it's privacy. All these providers are US based and are annihilating your personal data.

I just wish I could buy a TV without all the smart stuff, but it seems that every TV has it these days and you have to change a bunch of settings to get it to default to just showing the video input as default and bypass all it's "smart" stuff. Trying to find just a monitor (since that's all I use my TV for) is near impossible and very expensive!
I use the Apple TV and have done so for a while. I find it great, especially since it has AirPlay, so that I can stream content from my iPhone or Mac. As a bonus, I have the newest Apple TV, and this includes a Thread/Matter hub. So, all the new home automation devices that are coming out will connect to the network easily through my Apple TV box.

Roku is going all in on advertising hell.
The higher end units did perform better, tv power/audio in its remote, until Roku adopted the advertising Uber alles model.
Save the money for a later version of Apple TV.

@ 15:00, I didn’t get the FaceTime thing until my nieces wanted to face time their mom! Just throwing the call up in the tv made it so much easier vs them fighting over my phone 😂

mac rumors has a great breakdown of all the still supported apple tvs and their specs called “comparing the generations”. i think the 4k gen 2 is the best bet if u wanna buy used but still semi future proof
