“My hobby is tik tok”. Your mind has been colonized

We went from "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of moneyness."

Greetings from Australia. Woman in my 60s here.
Wow, this video was SO insightful, and well presented. Wonderful to see younger people realizing this and speaking out about it.
I wish you all the best on your journey through life.

As someone drowning in full-time work and full-time college, hobbies are a luxury I wish more people appreciated as active leisure

When you have the personality of unflavored oatmeal, it's strange to see people have interests and hobbies.

It's very true. Remember that... "Happy people always encourage, successful people always support, and attractive people always compliment; and those who have nothing to offer, will always bring you down."

People get annoyed with what they don't have and then are mean to those who do have stuff.

It blows my mind when someone has no hobbies and only scrolls on Tiktok for 10 hours a day, because my hobby is LITERALLY my entire life. I devote all my free time to digital sculpting and design and I enjoy it so much.

people on social media:
"why do people have hobbies?"
also them:
"my HOBBIES are eating, scrolling, and sleeping!"
how dumb can one be..

Delayed gratification is SO much more rewarding than instant, but you’ll never know it until you try. Embroidery FTW!

15:02 True. I lost interest in almost everything because some didn't like my hobbies. Took me almost 15years to heal, rebuild myself and again start drawing again and to actually enjoy it again.

I stopped showing my art to people in my life that have nothing else to say besides "you can make money off of this". I can, but until that happens organically I'm not going to sacrifice an ounce of creative integrity to make a quick buck.

I'm gen z and I love gardening, baking, drawing, writing, researching wars and mythics. I can't imagine not having my hobbies. I was raised poor to the bone, I was taught that monetary things are not as important as the people around you. Also that enjoyment and those hobbies take time.

As somebody who stopped drawing for 3 years, art was never just a hobby for me it was also part of my identity and I’m glad I got back into it now. Its not really about being the best artist but about giving yourself that freedom to simply enjoy and create. Creative freedom is an accomplishment in itself.

I have a saying that is perfect for what I love to do.

"I Write and Draw for Passion, Not Perfection"

This is a real problem. In orientation at the company I worked at we would ask what hobbies people had as a get to know each other exercise. Working, watching my kid, nothing. Scary answers. Hobbies are what make a person interesting. I’m older, I have had numerous hobbies and still do.

One of the other questions was where do you see yourself in 10 years. An alarming number of 16-25 year olds would respond “💀 ” or “hopefully 💀 ”. How depressing is that?

I can not imagine how someone that young formulates that opinion.

I'm learning to crochet from my 100 year old friend. I am not good at it. I enjoy trying, but even more, it's about the friendship I have developed with her. I consider her to be a bonus grandma now
