A big problem with me is people thinking I’m a terrible dog owner for having a reactive dog. I do often end up going home and it sucks because I know that’s a me problem.

This is exactly what I needed today. I’ve been walking my big dog more and more at night when less people with other dogs are out to avoid reactivity but after this I’m inspired to get out all hours and work on it more 😊

Our girl is super reactive. She's a rottie/Staffordshire terrier/bulldog rescue. Been watching you for years. We ended up in a situation. I took her from my husband and said watch... I started turning and avoiding, she did great! Did it several times and avoided several unwanted situations. My husband was amazed. She still has issues, but she is a thousand times better than when she got here. She's the best pup ever and she was almost killed in a shelter 😢. Thank you so much Tom!🩷🤍🩷

I have a Belgian Malinois and my problem is mostly the other dog owners. They see me correcting my dog and still they come up to me with their dog and say stuff like "Hey they want to play!"  There are a lot of dog owners out there who need training too.
I'm Dutch and is nice to see you're coming to The Netherlands.

I want to leave a comment to support what you’re saying.  We have a two year-old reactive dog. When my son brought her home at three months old, I started doing the techniques you’re showing. And even though my son does not require her to do any of the calm behaviours when out on walks, she will calmly walk on a leash with me because of all the practice we’ve done. She has learned that our relationship requires her to disregard distractions and focus on me and what I’m asking of her.  And I had to do this without food or treats, because she has a G.I. issue that requires digestive enzyme every time she eats something. It took a lot of effort, but was well worth it to have a relationship where I enjoy going on walks with her.  I practice daily in the house….out the house, whenever we’re together.

The last part about being harassed by garbage trucks…😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 good video

Tom please please keep making these kinds of videos! This helps me so much to understand how to train my dog. Reading trainers guides or books never helps me. I am a visual learner and I need to see it be done in order to help me understand. Please please please keep up with the content. I appreciate all you do in order to help me and others learn to train their puppies/dogs. ❤❤❤❤❤

Your channel made me a better dog trainer. I was so challenged by my new aussie. I only had labs who were so mellow and easy to train. With your guidance my aussie is slowly turning into a lab :D

I do this in general while walking my Cane Corso. He’s 15 months old and weighs 140lbs. I can’t have him being reactive. I change directions, stop, have him sit, down, take a few steps away, go back to him. He’s at the challenging age of testing his boundaries, but I’m doing what I can to keep him engaged on me and keeping my pay scale higher than whatever he sees.

Very helpful. I've been practicing this with my reactive German Shepard for a few weeks so this is excellent confirmation I'm doing the practice correctly. Thanks Tom  for dropping these very valuable videos for all of us🪻✨ blessings to you and your family

Stopping my dog from building has been the perfect thing. She starts to look at another person or dog? I call her backwards and tell her to heel. I repeat till I can stop and she stays by my side. I practice this every night with her dinner and did it on a trail with other dogs yesterday.

The garbage trucks.... Why is that guy waving at us? 😂😂

I have a 130 pound Dane and he just gets excited! These are great tips!

Now I practice these basic commands on our walks every day bc after one yr of being my family he’s still dog reactive.

If you ever come to AZ, please let us know.  We have an 11lb sweet dog who gets super excited on leash when he sees other dogs and kids.  It looks like aggression but he’s really excited and doesn’t know good manners.

Im just about to work with my daughters 9 month old rescue dog hes a terrier mix ver high energy and reactive
Wish me luck 😂

It’s garbage day. 😂

completely changed my mindset ever since i started following you. i have a reactive rescue dog, he's absolutely wonderful with dogs but always wants to get to them. you made me realize that a lot of the learning that needs to happen is basically on my end of the leash lol thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! :)

Im taking my nearly 5 month old newly acquired black Labrador who was a straying with its mom. Im working through reactivity with her, and I needed this!

My pit bull Buddy, who is long gone, used to LOVE trash trucks. One day, when he was a puppy, we were out on a walk and a trash truck driver stopped to ask if he could pet Buddy. Buddy had a good time with the driver, and from that time forward, every time he saw (or heard) a trash truck, he was excited to see if his friend would stop to see him.  🙂🐾
