Last Tuesday we witnessed the 75th anniversary of the Tokyo Raid with Dick Cole at the USAF Museum, WPAFB, Dayton. Great lecture! Learned a few new details, thanks!

This was so engaging, it got my heart pumping. I played it intending it as a sort of placid educational video to listen to as I did my house chores, but I was riveted. Thank you!

This is about the seventh or eighth time I watch this video but this guy who does the presentation he’s a very, very appealing kind of voice that I find myself coming back again and again to hear the presentation because it’s very accurate. It’s very intelligent so much about what really happened it covers so much important information and he does a fantastic job of presenting the information with great clarity. I only wished that video had been longer, and there was more questions asked and answeredif it was possible I’d tell him go back and do a second presentation to make it three hours longer.

Very good presentation, you really touched on the small things that really mattered that helped make that mission possible, thank you.

Very well presented , Thanks for posting

Excellent.  Lot of new info to me.

Great presentation !

I really enjoyed this presentation and learned a lot from Jack Kowiak. There is so much AI junk on YT these days, it is great that the old timers are still here!

*Good presentation thanks for posting.* Good point the Doolittle raid absolutely set up the Japanese fleet for a mauling at the battle of the Coral Sea and a sound drubbing at Midway.

I don't know if the Doolittle Raiders used maximum range extension procedures which would have saved the lives of these crew members and Chinese civilians.  I spent a career in extending range in twin-engine piston airplanes.  If I were captain on one of these bombers, then, after the target had been bombed (weight reduced), and when clear of the Japanese mainland, and, because of the early launch, when range was more important than speed, I would have "Zero-thrusted" the right engine. (The left engine running requires less rudder deflection, and, therefore creates less drag and "zero thrust", rather than feathering because the engine might be quickly needed).  Basic aerodynamics tells us that it takes 4 times the power to double the speed of an airplane,. So, an airplane with a cruising speed of 250 MPH would probably fly at about 150 MPH on one engine.  so, running on one engine would increase the time to the destination by about 40% but, would also increase the range by about 30%, which would have probably allowed the airplane to reach safe territory, or, at least ditch away from the Japanese infested coastline.  I would need specific performance figures and distances required to compute exact figures, but, basic aerodynamic rules would still apply.

I believe Hirohito made messy.

Glad I'm not relying on this guy for information on WW2 in the Pacific.
War Plan O. War with Japan which was put together after WW1 had our Pacific island bases as nothing more than delaying outpost.
The plan was for them to slow down the Japanese for 6 months.
That 6 months would allow for the US to come up to speed.
That is what happened, after 6 months the Japanese expansion was halted and from that point on the Japanese Empire receded.
My parents were engaged in the war , my dad built airfields for bombers, my mom built bombers along with an aunt, an uncle that I was named after joined the Navy in 1938 because he knew war was coming and didn't want to be drafted.
He served on the Commissioning crew of his 1st ship,  DD 417.
Later he was aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS Augusta.
Another uncle was a crew chief on B17s in the Pacific, later the B29s.
My dad died when I was 9 from issues related to WW2, my step dad enlisted on December 8, 1941. into the Marine Corps.Other uncles fought in Europe, an aunt in the Pentagon, and on, & on.
My father in-law who was British fought in Burma and in North Africa.
My current wife's grandfather fought in the German Air force.
That's where I learned about WW2.

Japan moving eastward? The last time I checked a map, India and the Middle East is west of Japan. "Japan had not been invaded in over a thousand years"  My math tells me from 1281 to 1942 is not over a thousand years.

Lind of drawn out intro, but overall good.

If the task forces had kept radio silence, the fleet could have gone undetected; the raiders could have all made it to China safely;  and the 250,000 Chinese would not have been executed. Shame on the Navy for not being more security conscious!
