Ferdinand’s elite mentality is part of what made him so successful at the highest level

Another big issue is English are valuing players they don't play too highly. Leipzig couldn't get Lookman cause Everton wanted £29m. How are these guys gonna play if they are being trapped

The English national team was the only team at the world cup along with Saudi Arabia whose players all played in the national league.  Yet the Premier League has the highest percentage of foreign players at 70%. So the english national team is picked from a pool of 30% from one single league. No wonder the national team is bang average. Young english players need to go abroad and play, its as simple as that. The problem is the money in the english game is so lucrative players can't bare to turn their back on the english wages. Sancho is now seen as an anomaly just because he has gone to another european country to actually play football.

Going to Dortmund just shows Sancho has the mentality to go on and become a great player. Why would the other young english players leave when they can sit happily on the bench for a great team like city on massive money for there age! More interested in getting money and instagram than playing the game

Ruben loftus cheek needs to go back to Crystal Palace cos Roy hodgson will actually play him

Ferdinand is spot on.

Eddie Howe is a top manager he's doing bits for Bournemouth and he has a bunch of English players

Because instead of playing abroad they would rather sit on the bench in the PL. 95% of foreign players in this league had to grind from the bottom before being brought to England, and English youngsters should do the same. Look at all the world cup winning teams.

Keown talking over cleverly. Let the man talk

Well, Alexander-Arnold and Gomez are playing and doing well, evolving visibly whilst watching them play.

English players need to bet on themselves and go abroad, take a pay cut. Learn a new style of play, grow up and mature and be back in 3-5 years a complete article

20 30 years ago there were many English players in the league and we still didn't win anytjing the players and the coaches are just not good enough

IF THEY’RE GOOD ENOUGH THEY’LL BE PLAYING, END OF. THESE MANAGERS AREN’T STUPID, THEY SEE THESE GUYS EVERY SINGLE DAY IN TRAINING.

I forget how good Rios Leeds team was too...

If I was a talented young footballer, I'd show up for training two hours early in a Vauxhall Astra, stay two hours late (like Beckham and Ronaldo always did to practice freekicks), and work harder than anyone else on that pitch. Then I'd quit social media, and make my reputation based on being willing to do whatever it takes to be a better footballer. I'd make myself so good I'd be impossible to ignore.
Also: I could listen to Ferdinand talk about any football subject all day long.

Go Rio go! Love the passion he shows in this video.
Money doesn't make legends. Legends make money.

When I heard Loftus-Cheek rejected a loan to Schalke to stay at Chelsea I was like this is the reason England are going to struggle in the future

Rio's mentality is great

When are we just going to accept that they’re not good enough? I saw Lewis Baker last year with Middlesbrough. Couldn’t even cut it in the championship.

English players should learn to play in another countrys...
