I think the funniest thing about the dog episode is when Jez opens the pedal bin to reveal the dead dog he's previously scrapped a plate of baked beans into the bin and over the dog.
Even though Nancy provides nothing to the plot of Handyman, and her inclusion seems trivial, she has one of my favourite lines in the whole season, when she finds out that Jez has been wanking off a guy for cash.. “Jeremy that is so you, I always knew you’d end up doing something like that…” “What?? That is not so me!!?!!”
She delivers that line with a bubbly innocence that was perfect for her.
I've watched Peep Show all the way through probably 4 times and I've never noticed how the Handyman timeline doesn't make sense. Even though it is quite glaring.
Sophies Peep Show is a fun extra, a ten minute episode from Sophies point of view. it shows that she thinks Mark is a nice guy, and she even calls him handsome at one point. he seems much less deranged when we cant hear his thoughts too
I think there’s some nuance to Matt Townsend not telling Sophie that Mark doesn’t love her. It’s like he has such resentment for Mark that the worst outcome he could think of is to be sanctioned to a loveless marriage
Regardless of continuity errors, I love handyman. What’s great about it is that it’s implied Sally Slater has some depth to her, she’s doing an English degree, she likes hitchhikers guide, she’s sympathetic to Mark, she’s not just a generic popular girl at school. She’s also sick of Fozz being stuck in the past, still trying to be the school bully years later. In a way, her and Mark are dealing with the same problem, stuck in horrible relationships because it’s what they’re supposed to do. Sally, the most attractive girl in school is meant to marry the alpha male dickhead, and Mark is meant to be a good businessman who marries a respectable girl from the office. Mark and Sally getting together might in fact be the best thing for them, they actually have a connection. But Mark can’t go through with it, he can’t break through the pressure to be normal. I genuinely find it heartbreaking when he says “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it’ll be sort of ok? Like the environment”
I can’t complain about Nancy having no reason to be there when she delivers the best line of the whole episode when she tells Jeremy she “always knew he’d end up doing something like that”
