Texas is facing widespread flooding after a prolonged dry spell was followed by severe storms, with the impacts stretching from the Panhandle through Dallas-Fort Worth and south toward Corpus Christi. The sequence began with two tornadoes in the Texas Panhandle on September 29, both of which remained rated EFU because survey crews found no damage to determine their strength.

The flooding intensified after moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Polo moved north from Mexico and interacted with an upper-level low and a cold front over Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth went 67 consecutive days without rain before receiving nearly six inches in some locations, making it the area's ninth-wettest October day on record.

Flooding caused power outages, sewage overflows, major travel disruptions and school relocations. South Texas then faced another round of heavy rainfall, with some areas near Corpus Christi reporting several inches per hour and additional rain expected.

In this video, we examine the two Panhandle tornadoes, Hurricane Polo's role in the flooding, the impacts across Dallas-Fort Worth, and the continuing rainfall threat in South Texas.

Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
