Cofnas believes that racial disparities in education and income can be explained by IQ and genetics. He also argues that avoiding these taboo conversations fuels the woke obsession with racism. Rather than embracing the culture-first perspective of figures like Thomas Sowell, he’s in full agreement with the left about the relevance of race. Cofnas just disagrees about what should be done, and a growing part of the far right is on his side.

I'm a huge fan of Ms. Birbalsingh, but find - with all respect - that she is presenting a complete caricature of Cofnas' views here. Suggestion: invite him on the show to discuss them and let him explain.

Like the Nobel Prize recipient Dr. James Watson, the father of DNA, or Charles Murray and Richard J. Herrnstein who wrote The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in America Life, Nathan Cofnas thinks that there is a link between IQ differences and race. These men might wrong but it’s a taboo subject, therefore it can’t be discussed openly.

I'm also a fan, but here I unfortunately disagree with the sensational straw-manning of Cofnas's work. He's smart enough to understand that most things have several causes that interact with each other in unexpected ways. What he says is that we allow any explanation OTHER than race science, that's a place we don't go as a society, the discussion we refuse to have. I actually think his work is sincere, he genuinely believes he is doing the right thing, because if we discover the truth we might find a better solution than resentful superficial identity politics, but you have compared him to the far right which is extremely unfair to him.
Even the quote you use actually expresses his opinion on the moral worth-intelligence dimension rather well: essentially, if you have a gift, use it - you have greater responsibility (in the quote: "your moral superiority is not guaranteed by your score on an IQ test") which is I think fair. We don't pretend everyone is equally beautiful, tall or funny, why shy away from intelligence? He is in favour of meritocracy, but just doesn't go as far as to promise that meritocracy will lead to equal representation.

And while we should do everything to provide everyone with the best education possible, we'd be deluded to think capabilities are the same across all races. Boys and girls are different and we're well served to acknowledge that. You don't call it "soft bigotry" not expecting a wheelchair bound person to climb stairs.

But as far as KB's job is concerned, this issue makes no difference. We're not asking 12 year olds to colonize space or cure cancer. We're asking them to behave decently and finish their homework. And that is doable at any IQ north of 60.

Way back in the day when I was in school they would separate us by our learning level into what they called "tract learning" & by God it worked beautifully. I ended up working at a school that went back to tract teaching for our reading skills. It was a kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade school. They would test the kids & find out what level they were reading at. I loved it! No kid in any classroom ever had the chance to think they were the dumbest kid in the room. That goes a long way towards keeping a kid interested in learning. And every teacher could do the same lesson plan & reach every kid in a classroom instead of trying to teach advanced readers & readers who might not even understand the whole alphabet yet. The reading scores improved by 80% the first year theh did that. By the next year all of us teachers were saying we felt like getting the kids to read better was seriously helping them in their math too. Those lower grades have a lot of writing to read to solve math problems & we seriously saw that improving right along with the reading grades. We need to go back to tracking kids & putting them together in one classroom based on their learning level. Takes a lot of stress off the teachers trying to teach a lesson to 25 kids on different learning levels. And I swear the kids confidence goes through the roof & makes them eager to learn everything they can

Nope, he did not say gene differences were the 'best way of explaining it', that someone born in the Congo is different from someone born in Japan. He said it is one of the reasons that averages across those populations are different. Massive difference in meaning. Listen to what he actually said again and explain why that is wrong?
