Was really happy to see this show suggestion make it through - sorry work commitments didn't allow me to make the show. You guys nailed it! Loved Andrews take on the Clash, even though he was wrong (HA)! Parish is on the exact same page as I am with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers ... once he buddies up with Jeff Lyne, things just aren't the same ever again. Hounds Of Love is my Kate Bush peak. That disc stayed in rotation in my CD player for a very long time! And a Grant-Rant over Cheap Trick is icing on the cake! 👍

Great Show, and agreed on most of the picks. The Clash is hard for me since I got started with the box set On Broadway and everything kinda merges together. I love most of it. Grant, would love a Kate Bush album series like you are doing with Radiohead. She needs more love!

Oh, one other thing on Kate - although I agree Red Shoes is probably her weakest albums, it contains some stunners: Lily is fantastic.

Great theme.

I'm still trying to understand Andrew's career. He helps primates live a good life. That's freaking sweet if it's anything like I imagine it to be.

Any mention of Kate makes a great show to me. Kudos! She is the most important female artist of the last 50 years.

Andrew, I didn't realize it was April 1st. Believe me, I tried with Cut the Crap. Just can't get past the production and terrible songs.
Now, Rope and the debut are one the greatest albums ever.

Each to their own. One of the good things about Kate Bush is she never made the same album twice. Some great songs on The Red Shoes:- Eat the music, title track, top of the city, moments of pleasure etc. a bit over produced maybe and loads of star guests but still a good distinctly different album. The re-recorded rubber band girl sounds like the Rolling Stones. A unique and brilliant album -can you get Parish’s brother on he has better taste?😂

I agree with Grant on “The Red Shoes.” There’s something about that album that always feels like it’s missing. There are a lot of guest musicians on it, including Prince, but after her previous two albums, it just felt like a big disappointment. There are some good songs on there, but I completely understand what Grant means about how he feels when he goes back to listen to it and how it dies t resonate, because I feel the same way. It’s weird.

I disagree with everything about the cheap Trick albums. I love em all apart from the doctor and woke up with a monster. Even standing on the edge is a big favourite of mine. But one on one and next position are brilliant in my opinion.

Fave/least fave
Queen-Jazz/A Kind Of Magic
Yes-Drama/Going For The One
ELP-Black Moon/In The Hot Seat
Jethro Tull-Rock Island/The Minstrel In The Gallery
Killing Joke-Brighter Than A Thousand Suns/Democracy
Ultravox-Rage In Eden/Uvox (I have not heard Brilliant.I don't consider the 2 90s albums really Ultravox, since its Billy Currie and some other guys)
Helloween-Better Than Raw/7 Sinners
Alice Cooper group-Love It To Death/Schools Out

Andrew- I know you're not a "metal guy" however in 1986 you had the peak of the first wave of thrash metal: Metallica - Master of Puppets ( made the top 40 with no video or radio airplay) Slayer- Reign In Blood, Megadeth- Peace Sells but Who's Buying. So that was way different from the cock-rock, poser, dance stuff out there. So there you go.

I am with you on ...Crap.i woujld much rather listen to that than Givem Enough Rope.Zzzzz
Give me 80s Clash.I don't want to hear that 70s stuff.I'd really rather listen to Big Audio Dynamite.

Just as well music is a matter of opinion. too much talk about cheap trick again even though i love the band, good show.

I agree 100% with Parish on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Into the Great Wide Open.” I don’t like that album at all, and it’s because of Jeff Lynne’s production and the songwriting. It just doesn’t work. It’s really such a nothing album, the songs all kind of sound the same. In fact, they annoy me when I hear them because they have that Jeff Lynne production sound and the songs are boring, It just doesn’t work with that band at all.

Now, I have to say that I liked a lot of what came after that album. I liked “Wildflowers” a lot, and I liked a lot of their later albums, too. I think Petty went back to singing more like his usual self.

As for their peak, I don’t know, because I really like the two albums that came after “Damn the Torpedoes.” I like “Hard Promises” a lot, and I also really like “Long After Dark.” That album has one of my favorite songs by him, if not my favorite: “Straight into Darkness.”

I can’t stand The Clash. Horrible band. London Calling is one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. I’ve really tried, and I’ve bought it several times, thinking maybe I was wrong, but no, I hate it. I’d rather listen to a Britney Spears album than listening to The Clash.
