It's so true. So many people don't have any idea how many challenges and how much effort it takes to breed gouldians and to get those babys becoming healthy adults. And many people don't value them how they should. I personally just wanted to try to create a "self sustained hobby" and onestly i didn't even achieved that this season because many people won't pay You close enough for the costs of the birds to be covered. If it wouldn't be my hobby i would have already give up long time ago because with the gouldians we invest more then we get back!

Some good info. Drafts & regular nest checks are the main things to avoid IMO. I avoid it 100% by installing cheap WiFi baby cameras on top of the nestbox where I can check all 8 boxes anytime and from anywhere by checking the phone app. We're not far away from Halloween now and fireworks make all my birds and dogs fret like mad. I always keep a radio going especially around these months and turn them up for a week before and after Halloween night.

They are such divas! Environment and light. Get really good lights and a warm area with reptile basking lamp, tube heaters and double radiator reflector so the winter cages are bombproof early. Lots of natural behaviour toys, fresh grass and dry leaves they can carry and dance with. Perches and greenery!! Basic quality of life with natural behaviour and stuff to do other than eat and squabble. They are very fragile but if you set them up to be happy with good fresh foods and veriety of stimulation they thrive. ❤❤❤❤❤

Just a question for all the uk Gouldian breeders, I know the Gouldians aren’t as hardy as a zebra. Even though they’re from the same, area. Mine are from Dorset and are well adapted to the climate. Funny thing is so is the Gouldians seeing how no birds have been exported from Australia for over 30 years. The problem is that we the breeders have always put them in heat over winter, myself included saying that as said in the video it’s the damp cold winds, Gouldians can’t hack for extended periods. So it’s a must that all gaps in your fights are sealed up and they will go out during the winter months as long as they can keep popping in and out of the heated birdroom. I cover my outside flights with the plastic sheeting that the scaffolding has to stop all the dust going everywhere, perks of being a builder and having a big van😉

A quick question, what is the size of the hole opening of the cage nest boxes of your original breeding cages? The ones with the hole on the one side and the nest box on the outside.

Hi everyone I kept my birdroom between 15 to 18degs and at this temperature I got 28 hens and 8 cock chicks I did think birds are reptiles? And the heat determines the sex in crocodile eggs ???? What do you think.

Do gouldians need toys, habitat enrichment or greenery (live or safe artificial)?

AUSTRALIA: Colony Breeding ... I always have a minimum of twice the number of Gouldian Pairs nesting boxes in the avairy.

ALL sprayed with Coopex residual insecticide, and nesting material in each nesting box. I also place nesting material in a basket on the floor.
