I always interpreted the word "ghost" in "Ghost Ship" in the same way as "Ghost Town." Not an actual apparition, but an abandoned human structure that has survived mostly intact despite conditions

I feel like a lot of unexplained disappearances at sea can be summed up with “we used to think rogue waves were a myth.”

The Long John Silver's tangent rant was necessary and justified.

PLEASE do a deep dive on the Northwest Passage! Watching The Terror awoke a hungering fascination about it for me

They made TWO desks. The other is in Buckingham palace and is the desk the British Monarch signs all official documentation. The door on the American desk was a gift for FDR to prevent his wheelchair from being seen

I'm so glad you didn't sensationalise the Ourang Medan story like most people do in their videos. I spent the best part of 6months researching the topic for my video back in 2020, and found the majority of it to be so inconsistent, its ultimately probably nonsense.

4:20 "Mom I want Joe Scott."
"Honey, we have Joe Scott at home."

"I die" is like taking the time to write, "Castle Arghhhh...."

17:37 When someone dies the family often wants to tell themselves that nothing could’ve been done. And I’m sympathetic to the widow, but these were all old men that were poor swimmers and weren’t wearing lifejackets. If you add a possible medical event (due to age) or a concussion from the boom, a tragic but inevitable accident becomes the most likely theory.

1:00 A PIRATE?   Well that’s hardly the image we want for LONG JOHN SILVERS!!

Elaborating a bit on the story of the Franklin Expedition;

The two ships went missing in 1846. John Rae was surveying the coastline of the Boothia Peninsula for the Hudson's Bay Company in 1854. He met Inuits who had actually met the remains of the crew; 35-40 white, gaunt, starving men struggling across the ice. But he was told that they had been too stubborn accept substantial help from the Inuits, although they had traded with them. Supposedly the remains of the crew had succumbed to hunger, cold and eventual cannibalism.

When Rae brought this news to Victorian England, along with some personal affects of the sailors, that he had been given from the Inuits, he was dismissed, verbally abused and even accused of having killed the crew himself.

The two wrecks were found only in 2014 and 2016, and only because of eye witness testimony of local Inuits, who had seen big pieces of wood sticking out of the ice.

There are some great documentaries about that whole affair online. I just find it so incredibly haunting that Rae accidentally encountered someone who had met and interacted with the remains of the crew right before it succumbed. Like they had truly met a group of ghosts.

It's amazing how many mysteries just stopped happening when satellite photography was invented.

4:32 Tangent cam keeps surprising me 😂

As a Chilean who's followed you for many years its great to see you talking about the Caleuche. As you mentioned its part of the mythology of the island of Chiloé, which is so rich and interesting you could probably make a whole video about it.

There's also an acting award show named after it, strangely enough and a couple of movies made about it, which are not very good.

Also, if you're interested in Chilean ufology, you should look into Friendship Island, its a really weird story that's been around since the 80s. There's a whole documentary about it: "Isla Alien".

Consider my timbers well and truly shivered.

I'm Chilean and I'm so happy el caleuche was included in this video, I wasn't expecting it at all but it's a very important part of our folklore. Thank you, Joe!

1:37 Maybe shiver the timbers AFTER hoisting the sails...otherwise there's nothing to hoist them on....

HMS Erebus and Terror have got to be the coolest names for ships I've ever seen.

3:10 Burger King refutes that claim and adds that their version includes fresher ingredients

18:31 you might want to check out the story(ies) of John Rae. Franklin was an idiot who managed to snafu everything he touched. Rae spoke with Inuit people who told him that Franklin’s ship had sunk. Franklin and his crew had starved and committed cannibalism.
When Rae returned to England to pass on the news from the Inuit witnesses, Lady Franklin, with the help of her friend Charles Dickens, vilified Rae and ruined his reputation.
