This film isn't racist; it's ABOUT racism & it makes fun of racists.

My favorite Mel Brooks quote is when someone asked him if he could make Blazing Saddles today. He calmly said, "I couldn't make it back thrn."

the farting scene is the first time a fart is heard on screen in an American film

I read that Mel Brooks said that Blazing Saddles was his funniest movie, and Young Frankenstein was his best.

Young Frankenstein is the next Mel Brooks movie you should watch. It and Blazing Saddles are his masterpieces. This movie got me and many others to examine our own levels of acceptance of others. I was so impressed by Veronika's recognition of the name Jesse Owens. Great reaction!

Best laughs for this movie I've ever seen from reactors. Really made it fun.

To this day, "Where the white women at?" is the funniest line I've heard in a movie.

When they lassoed the handcart and pulled it out of the quicksand, I knew I was in for a good reaction. 😊

The yes, no on the bull is a joke based on US buses that used to have "yes" and "no" on their backs to let drivers behind them know which side was safe to pass them on.

One of my favorite Mel Brooks movies is The Producers (‘67). His first film. Also staring Gene Wilder.

This fellow laughing is how I remember laughing in the theater seeing this, along with the rest of the audience! This is a real reaction to a comedy classic.

Madeline Kahn, who plays Lili von Shtupp..."can she sing, or not?" you ask... She was a trained opera singer.

37:50 The tollbooth idea actually appeared first in Harvard Lampoons Bored of the Rings (1969) to stop the Black Riders from crossing at the Ford of Bruinen.

Mel Brooks, as the Indian Cheif is speaking ....Yiddish.

It's Waco ( Way-co )
Waco is a city in Texas

You'll also like The Producers (in addition to Young Frankenstein and History of the World) Mel Brooks has an EGOT. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony. Legend. He's the Mayor and the Indian Chief. (He's speaking Yiddish. Only sounds like German.)

Edit: The original black and white Frankenstein followed by Young Frankenstein would be a great combo for the Halloween season.

It was very difficult for Mel Brooks to get this movie made and get it pass the censors. People say, today, movies are too protected. In the 70s there were a lot of movies that took a herculean task of getting beyond the mpaa. Mel Brooks said forget saying it wouldn't be made today. It almost wasn't made in 74.

The band in the desert is the one and only decades-famous Count Basie orchestra. It was actually quite an achievement to get Count Basie to do that scene.
Did the laurel and hearty handshake (in the "welcome sheriff" scene) go over your heads? Laurel and Hardy is a famous comedy team, they made over 100 films in the 1930-50s.
"Mongo only pawn in game of life" is perhaps the deepest observation in the whole script.
