I think there might have been a catch from the start and it just got worse. I’m going to retest after a few sharpenings because I think it will do much better than that.
I measure right at the shoulders with the tips of the calipers. EDIT: I just measured it again and I’m getting the same thing as you right around .027” to .030” behind the edge. I think I mixed up the settings on my calipers when I did that test. I will sometimes mess up a measurement when I do it live. Mine was pretty slick at the edge as well. I think that I will go ahead and put my edge on mine and see how it performs. Great review sir
Because bte thickness can vary tremendously on a single edge, it's typical to take multiple measurements. Usually there is extra thickness left at the tip and heel and the thinnest measurement will be taken at the belly area. If you're only looking to take one measurement then I'd take it at the area of the blade that gets most use, skipping the heel and tip.
