This makes me realise how much I would have loved a Colonial Marines saturday morning cartoon as a kid 😢

I always thought Apone was authentic. Learning that he was a USMC Sgt in Vietnam, now I am not surprised. Much like R Lee Ermy nailed the DI in Full Metal Jack by simply playing what he knew, Al Matthews gave the same type of performance in Aliens with Apone and it showed in the authenticity of the entire unit. His "Look into my eye" comment to Hudson conveyed awesome menace and retribution and that had to be improvised. Only a SGT knows how to convey menace like that in so few words. Rest in Peace Sgt Apone.

- hudson : "hey vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man?"
- vasquez : "no have you !"
so many good lines in this great movie :P

Oh man, a prequel movie to Aliens showing what the Colonial Marines had done previously would have been awesome. What a shame we will never see that

I miss Hudson I'm glad he lives on in stories like this.

“All right sweethearts, what are you waiting for, breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps. A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal is a banquet. Every paycheck a fortune. Every formation a parade. I love the Corps!”

I remember that in some military units "bug hunting" is annoying check of whole area looking for hidden people and places.
It actually fit a bit story of aliens because they expected to spend time wandering in base looking for colonists.

Al Matthews, who played Apone(whose name was also Al), served in Vietnam and received 13 awards, including 2 purple hearts. He was also a blues singer in Europe. Thats why his role seemed so real. R.I.P.

Look into my eye.

- Apone. The ultimate badass among ultimate badasses. RIP.

RIP bill paxton too

Halo's Sergeant Major Avery Johnson was modeled after Apone. Apone can also be heard in the Aliens: Colonial Marine video game! Apone lives on forever!

Gorman: Morning Marines. Im sorry we didn’t have time to brief you people before we left gateway but...
Hudson: Sir?
Gorman: What is it, Hicks?
Hudson: Hudson, Sir. He’s Hicks.
Gorman: What’s the question?
Hudson: Is this gonna be a stand-up fight, Sir , or another bug hunt?
Gorman: All we know is that there’s still no contact with the colony... and that a Xenomorph may be involved.
Frost: Excuse me, Sir. A what?
Gorman: A Xenomorph.
Bill Paxton/Hudson is The Best. I love Hudson. R.I.P Bill Paxton

Apone was one of my favorite characters. This series always kill strong and charismatic "leaders" too early - Dallas in Alien, Apone in Aliens, Clemens & Andrews in Alien 3, Elgyn in Resurrection

I love the idea the Frost chambered a live grenade at 0:12 then hopped in a tiny dropship.

"Get on the ready line marines, it's time to die". Most bad ass line in the movie

@jblayze83too 3 years ago

In Reclamation (a prequel/bug hunt), we learn that Hicks was married to another marine whose unit was attacked by xenomorphs! He obvs didn't know for sure because he hadn't encountered them yet, but it's a really interesting set up to how he was deployed to lv426

This should have been a whole stand alone movie, would have been a cult classic too IMO.

I'm sorry I was late, Sarge. Rest in price and tell Gunny Ermy I said hi.

The lines "Octurian poon tang" - and "another bug hunt" were seriously slept on lol. Id have loved to see an expanded universe based around Camerons installment
