John Boy Walton was very good for a month.

He couldn't even qualify for the Lakeside the year before this and was ranked about 50th. He started as a 50/1 outsider.

Then out of nowhere he won the Masters in December 2000, followed by the Lakeside in January 2001.

He literally did nothing else afterwards, best he could manage at the Lakeside was a couple more QFs, and was out of the top 30 within a few years.
