Zakir Hussain - hold my tabla

Who is here after we lost him 😢

Imagine getting slapped by Zakir Hussain. He would've slapped you 20 times before you realize it.

He is not just Zakir hussain...he is "Ustad Zakir Hussain"

How many of you remember him saying “Wah Taj”!!

This is Indian Classical Music. The living legend. I'm proud to be a student of him.

In 1999, Zakir hussain was awarded the United States National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship, the highest award given to traditional artists and musicians.

He practices 16 hours a day. And he started when he was 1 year or so. Tabla has its own language.

What he does is humanly not possible. That’s why he is one of the Gods in music industry.

I want you guys to know 2 things

1. There are "gharanas" in India. So gharanas are actually centres of Indian classical music learning where the knowledge of music is being passed down for generations. Some of the oldest gharanas date back to 15th - 16th century. And there are MANY gharanas throughout India.

2. In the middle of his perfomance, he said some things, those were "bols" or actually notes. In short he was playing what he was saying which was Tabla bols (notes)

Best part---"Those were his fingers man!"

The amount of hard work,  dedication, time and practice being put up by Ustad ji over the years is absolutely insane. This is what a maestro looks like. Enjoying his craft way beyond the comprehension of others. Creating new beats while playing live. This is perfection. He is truly the God of tabla.

My father plays tabla... He has qualified 8 exams of tabla. He is Tabla Visharad (masterd). When he was learning tabla... He used to tie stones of 1kg weight to his both wrist to get the proper grip... Imagine how Ustad Zakir have practiced to reach at that leavel...?

This is Indian classical music.. And he is one of the best tabla maestro's in India... This is the level of mastery.. Proud to be a Indian.

4:24 I love that reaction by Rick...😂
