In this #masterpiecefriday edition of #thedailydoug, I'm listening to the first five songs from Radiohead's 2007 album In Rainbows. We'll hear 15 Step, Bodysnatchers, Nude, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, and All I Need. This band has again wowed and entertained and challenged me. I loved hearing these songs for the first time, and I hope you enjoy the ride!

that is the perfect order. Studio, then live will give you a greater appreciation

Weird Fishes is a seriously impressive composition.

Massive metal fan here. Radiohead transcends so many genres as a favorite. I loooove Radiohead and In Rainbows is just about perfect.

When Kid A came out I thought, ‘Why am I listening to three guitarists playing keyboards? What happened to the guitar based band I fell in love with?’. And then after my second listening I realised how shortsighted and unimaginative I was.
In Rainbows is the culmination of 20 years of learning how to write unique albums each containing a set of unique songs. They also learnt how to play different instruments in different styles using different technologies!! They’ve also remained united as a band all this time. I can’t think of another band that’s managed to achieve what Radiohead have without imploding, replacing band members or selling out.
I think there’s an argument that they are the greatest band of all time. But the funny thing is that even if they were awarded such a title, they wouldn’t give one sh*t! Heck, I doubt Thom Yorke would even notice. 😂

I remember receiving this album in my inbox at midnight in 2007. Put it on, closed my eyes and bawled my eyes out. Still the most memorable album listen of my life.

The bass in this album is incredible.

The ‘pay what you want’ album…priceless

I love watching people listen to 15 Step for the first time and figuring out the timing. Gotta be one of Radiohead's catchiest tracks and most successful blend of organic instruments and electronics. Wouldn't mind a whole album in this style to be honest.

Fittingly, David Byrne gave the induction for Radiohead into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I'm glad you chose the studio version over the "From the Basement" performance for your initial listen. I don't think all the songs from the album are in the live performance so you'd have been missing out on one or two, plus I think you'll enjoy their basement session all the more.

And I think "Bodysnatchers" and "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" both answered the critics who thought Radiohead was no longer a guitar band after the electronica-heavy previous three albums. The guys can still bring it!

Great job as always - looking forward to the conclusion.

Weird fishes is a brilliant tune

Great choice...studio first...then watching them perform and create all these sounds live In The Basement...it's absolutely mind-blowing-ly incredible!

"Nude" is the kind of song that should have got Oscars and Tonys...

Nude is so beautiful. And I’m always so happy when he lands that last note up the register! Ascending to somewhere

Previous albums by Radiohead were incredible, groundbreaking, trajectory-changing for rock music. But In Rainbows to me was the album where they reached the height of their powers. It's a perfect record.
