I promise playing D&D solo is less sad and lonely than spending time typing out a comment to tear someone down for enjoying themself.

This is exactly what I needed. Permission to continue to be a total introvert and play D&D solo.

People saying about solo D&D that it's 'sad' 'weird' or 'cringe', as opposed to group D&D, which is never described with these words

@Capng123 1 year ago

People who think solo gaming is cringe have never known the joy of rolling three times on a random table and suddenly having that weird thing you rolled up three sessions ago make PERFECT SENSE, making the connecting narrative unfold in your mind like one of those ultra-pro dominoes set ups. It's fucking magical.

It's not like writing a book, It's playing with your action figures/dolls, but with rules. Group dnd have also been decribed as playing. around with your friends on the play ground. Solo dnd players are keeping their inner kid with them, and that's honestly really impressive living in this world. Respect

I hope you appreciate the irony of me and 2 other friends hanging out in Discord and all exclaimed "oh new Ginny video" and together as a party watched the video about spending time and having fun on your own :D

As a forever DM, solo is how I get my fix of being a player! So glad you’re getting to finish Aisling’s story - this seems like a great way to get closure for all those beloved characters whose campaigns go by the wayside…

Solo D&D. The perfect game for people who want to play on there own and problem players who are now not problem players because they ARE the main character.

Thanks for adding your take on the "cringe"-comments. I think it's so important to adress how limiting the fear of being "cringe" has become, and how much it stops people from being themselves, slipping up, even doing things they like. To be cringe is to be free!

Honestly I would be good with sitting through the 3 hours of watching you solo play. Put it to some nice music, or your own songs, and it would be my comfort video.

“It’s sad, it’s weird, It’s cringe” Umm pretty sure that’s what they say about regular DND😅

@lauraxe8 1 year ago

I started playing solo because chronic illness and disability stopped me from being able to make it to group dnd, but I found that I loved it so much that I would actually keep playing even if I could make it to "regular" dnd. I love Paul Bimler's stuff so much.

"cringe" is just "I don't personally like that, therefor it is bad and you should feel bad for doing something that isn't my personal preference"
It's simply the most current phrase people use to make other people feel bad for living their life. Calling someone "cringe" for enjoying a hobby is truly sad. What an unfortunate lens to view life through.

A benefit for solo play is you can practice different game mechanics, and see how they work at the table by simulating a "real" situation a group would encounter. I wish more published mechanics used this step. Not just D&D, but a lot of RPGs had books that were written but it was apparent that nobody never tried the content before it went to print.

Tysm for the chatgpt shade <3 Human creativity is soooo important and needs to be cherished!!! Giving that fun away to a program takes so much creativity away from us!

@Kartanaunfolded 1 year ago

Between playing videos games, reading books by yourself, this isn’t really all that different.

@SkepticalCaveman 1 year ago

Solo D&D is perfect for when the rest of your group has to cancel last minute, but you still want to play and are already set up for D&D.

@carlottastudiosofficial 1 year ago (edited)

As a solo D&D player, I can confirm that you can still definitely have a social element to solo D&D. Not during play, admittedly, but outside the game, I can and will ramble to them about what's going on in my solo adventures.

Also thank you so much Ginny for tackling the whole "isn't solo D&D just writing a book?" kind of comments. I'm a writer as well as a solo D&D player, so I've had my friends teasingly say I'm just writing a book as I play, and I struggled to articulate why I felt there was indeed a solid difference. So your covering that topic in this video was very vindicating, thanks again for that!

Can't wait to see more of Aisling's story!!!!!
