RH Midwest Comics

I travelled to Chicago for another pure 100% comic book show...in a hotel. Is the past becoming the future of comic-cons?

Miss the hotel (and halls like Knights of Columbus, temples and churches, etc.) comic and trading card shows. In NY, we used to have them literally every weekend and even weeknights back in the day. All comics and cards... no nitwits dressed up like it's a Halloween party. Most modern comic cons should just be called Pop Culture conventions.

This is so true. My son likes comics and most booths are toys, art, and everything but comics. I saw more custom water bottle and lego stuff then I did comic book stands.

My first comic book convention, was in the early eighties, and was a combined Comic/Star Trek con, and was at a hotel somewhere in Silicon Valley I think.

My first comic convention was at a local hotel here in the Twin Cities with my dad as a kid, and it was absolutely glorious for the best memories I have with my dad during our comic collecting days

as a Genx'er, this is how shows use to be, just not sure why we got y from this type of venue

the hotel convention space COMICS SHOS are some of the best comic cons - we have a few a year in the New York / tristate area

That Silver Age Marvel box at the beginning warranted a closer look - so many classic and key issues you kind of glossed over while sifting through there. A good number of them deserve to be wall comics and not just tossed into a long box to get damaged from handling.

Thanks for taking us along! Nothing beats the type of shows.

The strongest comic show in South Jersey is in a Best Western meeting room. Two vendors.

In Detroit we have bi monthly shows at the Elk Lodge. All dealers, giveaways, all comics.

Yeah, that really brings back fond memories from going to comic conventions in the early 80’s. Nothing but tables of comic long boxes. Good times…

Daytona Comic show in Florida is a true comic show. Highly recommend if anyone’s in the area.

I miss these !! Back in the 70's thru when it ended I used to go to the monthly Phil Seuling comic conventions in NYC. THey were about 98% comics, 2% non-sports cards and other. Still, they were an amazing event and a cherished part of my early days in collecting.

They should call the modern ones Funko-cons

I miss the hotel comic book shows. I use to take my son when he was 10 and a little older.

The Chicago Minicon was great. Terry O'Neill put it together as the first comic con coming out of Covid. This year was the second Minicon. My experience there was about half the dealers had reasonably priced comics and half had way overpriced books (2.0 copies priced like 6.0).

The Atlanta Comic Convention held in the Atlanta Marriott Northeast/Emory is very similar to this Chicago one. Smaller room, but great gold, silver, bronze & copper selection. I found out about it this year and attended the most recent event. They hold a few a year in the same location. Highly recommend!
