Ask the politicians "how many houses do you own?" then listen to their answers to the housing problem that others are experiencing but they are profiting from.

I grew up in NSW country towns. Very few doctors stay long as the social support structure is poor. That will continue as long as governments resist enhancing the transport network (particularly away from the coast) . The move to mobile remote work has improved the mix of professionals in regional areas but the NSW government is going against the tide in pulling people back to Sydney purely to enhance the Sydney CBD at a cost to all other business areas in the state.

I've also worked in the university sector and seen first hand the reluctance of the institutions to fail or expel paying students. It's been bringing down the standard of teaching for decades.

You do understand that Donald Horne was being somewhat ironic when he coined the phrase for his book The Lucky Country?

"Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck. It lives on other people's ideas, and, although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders (in all fields) so lack curiosity about the events that surround them that they are often taken by surprise."

Let’s just face it. Politicians will only serve the wealthy interest while arguing about the most important topics. Never agreeing. Never actually doing anything

Wolves are not only in charge of the welfare of chickens, but also speak on behalf of all chickens.

The term "The Lucky Country" is a sarcastic term coined by writer Donald Horne as the title for his 1964 book. But it became mistakenly railroaded as a positive term. Kinda like the song Good Riddance (Time of your Life) by Green Day.......

Australia is facing some big challenges, but it's always interesting to hear different perspectives.

Great discussion of the problems we face in the land Down Under. Good to see our politicians speaking in a civilised manner. It would have benefited from a panellist other than a politician or journalist, though. Cassandra Goldie, head of ACOSS, would be an excellent guest to interview at some point, to discuss the increasing financial inequality between the haves and have-nots.

Clicked on this as I'd long heard about this service and its role in certain kinds of messaging, which can be justified or opposed from various angles, but it was just funny that after all these years, the first time I actually "tune in" I get slapped with an 'I'm Johnny Diamond'. It's been an audacious start, BBC World Service.

This breaking news is so true and it should be early informed to many people. 10 years ago, I studied and worked in Vic and I truly acknowledged that the tuition in universities was already costly, but now even more. Now, housing price is a problematic since its price is over the labour wage for both local people and foreigners. Other issues should be considered too such as crime and environment.

It's important to think out of the box and learn from other developed and developing economies how they are dealing with problems.

Everything is a policy decision.
- concentration of supermarkets monopolies is a policy decision
- not taxing mining companies and using the money for all Australians is a policy decision
- housing shortages is a policy decision
- allowing monopoly ownership of media (especially in Qld where there is only one company that owns all papers) is a policy decision.
