I graze like a lumbering beast. It keeps me complacent, docile.

Adam: “I am against pompous, unimaginative grammar scolds!”

Also Adam: “I refuse to call it an air fryer”

One of my favorite "aha" moments was realizing that "breakfast" is literally just "break fast", it's de facto your first meal of the day

Yearly Ramadan rewatch of this video

I like how Everything Everywhere All At Once is so good that Adam felt the need to recommend it even if it didn't fit at all with the podcast.

Hahaha Ragusa being a grammar pedant about 'lived experience' but immediately defends "I could care less." lol

" i hate clothes" and "im not good at wearing clothes" i feel this so much, first time ive heard someone express this exact sentiment

Hearing Adam share his experience with hiccups in mental health was an especially resonating experience, and I'm so glad he was able to do so. :)

Intermittent fasting has actually been quite the boon for my health. So far I've been able to down about 90 lbs on my way to a healthy weight, and it has certainly helped me get a better relationship with food. Happy to hear Adam talk about it!

I have naturally settled into what people would consider fasting.  I eat one meal a day after work and don’t feel hungry hardly ever the entire following day.  Been like this since I was a child.  Just always seemed right to me.

I really appreciate your willingness to talk about personal anxiety and mental health. I know that can be hard but it helps me a lot to remember that people who seem totally “normal” can have the same problems that I do with mental health.

Worked the graveyard shift in a donut shop. The one benefit was that after a week or so, I did not want to eat any sugary baked goods anymore. That helps with weigh gain. The part about working all night and sleeping part of the day was the hardest part. Although I got to see the sun rise on a regular basis and that is a spiritual event like no other.
Thanks for your work on the podcast. Always entertaining and educative.

I'm so sorry about the panic attack, that sounds absolutely awful.. I'm very happy and grateful that you have such loving and supportive people around you☺️

I have never tried actual fasting purposely but sometimes I would skip meals especially when distracted outdoors on vacation.  I used to experience migraine headaches fairly often and I made it a point to take notes of everything I remembered of the previous days in hopes of figuring out the cause.  It turned out my #1 cause of migraines was skipping meals.  Since I learned this I have avoided skipping meals and I went from a couple migraines a month to maybe one every 2 years.  Maybe fasting is not for me.

I earnestly hope you're seeing a good therapist for your panic attack issues. Your psyche wants you to be healthy as I'm sure you want to be healthy; you can overcome these hurdles if you go about it in a proper and self-respecting way. Best wishes to you Adam.

Thank you for sharing insights into ramadan fasting. The next ramadan is almost 2 months away & we have already started talking about it.
One thing worth mentioning is that the first few days of ramadan are vastly different to the rest once we acclimatise to the daily routine, which is probably due to the gut bacterias screaming their mitochondria off.

I tried "itermittant fasting" 16-8 and 18-6 religiously (ha) for several weeks each and I HATED it. It improved nothing for me, and generally just made me crankier which isn't something I need more of... And definitely did not improve mental health to any noticeable degree and believe I would have noticed. Congrats to those it works for but I'll stick to keeping an eye on my macros and a consistent workout schedule.

I do a one meal a day fast. My weight ballooned to about 127kg during and after Covid thanks to working from home, stress and trying to keep family morale up in lockdown through 'cinema days' and themed eating days. I lost a few KG when I realised that I had been overeating but the crazy weight loss came from fasting, I lost about 20-25kg in 2-3 months of OMAD fasting and walking for 45-90 mins a day (to and from work). My weight went back up 5-6kg in the four months that followed as I came up to Christmas but that took 3-4 weeks of OMAD to get back down. OMAD, despite the four month break, is something I know I can do indefinitely. It saves me a fortune in food as I don't need to bother with breakfast or lunch and it means I can be far more carefree, if I need to go out for a meal with friends or my daughter.

I sleep better, I look better, my IBS is nothing like the issue it used to be, I'm financially better off. The only thing that concerned me (and why I took the break) was how quickly the weight came off, I was actually worried there might be an underlying health issue and I needed to check that I could gain weight, should I wanted to and that I wasn't losing it for negative reasons. Now I know it's fine, I can keep at it. Just in time, as I've just split with my fiance and having the smaller shopping bill, is actually a very good thing!

Be aware that a drop in blood pressure can be dangerous depending on your normal levels. I once accidentally fasted for a day and the drop in blood pressure was enough to make me faint.

I do have issues with fainting in specific scenario's, but after that day I decided I would always eat something every day.

I always took "I could care less" as being sarcastic. Kind of like "we should be so lucky" or "bless your heart." It's okay for things to mean the opposite of their literal meaning.
