No pressure — just appreciation.

My husband and I are visiting Guanajuato for three months to get a sense of what it would be like to live here permanently.  Here’s what we have found:
- you need to speak some Spanish. I have been studying Spanish for a year prior to coming here. My husband is fluent. But I need to be able to communicate in my own.
- I’m a cook and the first thing I did was to start cooking like a Mexican which was all new to me. It gives us a real feeling of living like a Mexican.
- we shop for food in the small tiendas and the Mercado Hidalgo in Centro.  Very rarely do we shop at the supermercado.
- we aren’t renting a car and so we get to talk with our taxi drivers on our way around Guanajuato. It helps me to hear the language in a normal conversation and the drivers  are all gracious and warm people.

Mexico is the best country to be old in. Ten years here.

I would like to add that despite potential political conflict or judgement, we have been welcomed by nearly everyone we encounter in Mexico, and we feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

I really appreciate your channel. I live here in Morelia, Mexico. I  believe your experience might be a little different from mine. I have never heard a raised voice. Never seen people fighting and cursing each other. I  never saw an angry Mexican and I am always on the street. I take the combis, ubers and didis very often. Never have I ever worried about my safety and I am an older woman living alone. I often wear wear fine jewelries. I am a permanent resident of Mexico. I applied  for permanent residency in Chicago and now is the holder of a Mexican, since I  met the qualifications needed to be permanent resident  of Mexico. I am a black female so I think you and I perhaps will have different experiences living in Morelia.  First off the bat, most people in the world hardly saw black people as tourist. That's a win for me. They see us as someone from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti and that's a good thing since they have a misconception  of who I am. I will never be seen in Morelia as an affluent  United States citizen. In fact, when I speak English they immediately stare at me with a surprise loopk on their faces. It took me a while to realize what the problem was. On many occasions I  would ask someone for a direction and they would respond  with a couple pesos since they didn't  understand English and assumed I am begging, even though I was nicely dressed. Amazing. I realize a lot of Mexicans in Morelia are very ignorant about seeing black people walking around in Morelia sincethey are accustomedto see people who look like me as refugees trying to collect money to cross the border to get to the United States.  minds If only they knew who I was and who I  am. I need to let many Mexicans know that the qualifications for getting permanent residency in Mexico most Americans could not meet the qualifications. I met the the qualifications in all areas. The irony.

A couple years ago I visited Paris, France and Jamaica. I was robbed in Paris, France ana attacked  in Jamaica.  In my view, the United States is the most dangerous country on earth. Very uncivilized people. Isolated and insulated.  Especially for black and brown people. I adore my Mexican brothers and sisters. They restored my humanity  after I was robbed of it living in the United States.

I've been here for over 3 years. I grow more in love with the people, the culture, and life every single day. I appreciate the pace of daily life.  A continue to study Spanish and am fairly fluent and I at least don't sound like I'm 5 any more. Weekly classes continue. :)

The amazing thing about Mexicans in Mexico is if you are trying to learn the language they will help you.  The first time we went to Mexico I couldn't speak one word of Spanish.  We were there 10 days and in that time I had learned at least 20 words.  I was taught the difference in Buenas dias, Buenas Tardes, Buenas Noches.  For me that was a win.  Now I'm learning as much as I can via duolingo.  I can read way more that I can speak to say the least but I'm trying.

Love and respect your honesty refreshing ❤!

Good video...I've been in Mexico for 3 years and am happy with my choices.
Like you said...Life doesn't necessarily get better but it definitely can be Different!

I watch Mexico-resident/visitor content a lot, and you have raised many new and valid points (looking at the condition of the street dogs - brilliant!). Thanks so much for making this video.

Congratulations‼️👍🌮

Just discovered your channel😊.   In 2004 my wife and I moved to the Chapel area.  Returned to Florida in 2010.  I loved the Mexican lifestyle and my wife accepted the lifestyle.  Distant family connections and cultural difference motivated our return.

I became a widower in 2014 and my life changed and I sought a beach life interrupted by a final joyful 😊 year of living in Mexico in 2023.

I'm almost 84 now, back at the beach.  As I age healthcare  conveniences, everyday efficiency, and normality of life finally outweigh the romance of Mexico.

Thanks for sharing...y si....uno de mis loved ones vivio en varios estados de México y nunca se sintió agredido x el acento. ...hizo muchos amigos.❤

Been here over 20 years..

I visited Jalisco 19 years ago that means I been living in Mexico almost 2 decades because I never left. I visited autlan, went back home for 2 weeks and returned to Jalisco and haven't thought of ever moving back to the u.s specially now.

Loved this content! One thought — a short early hook in the description that tells viewers exactly what to expect can improve early retention.

Even subtle tweaks often make a noticeable difference in suggested traffic.

I can share a simple trick I use that usually works — happy to show you.

F.C., living in Merida, Mexico for almost 20 years. l love the heat;  for the first time this is a long and cool winter!  we have no heat in the houses.    Life is now a bit different, then when i arrived;  more people and many more cars, and strangely enough, less choices in supermarkets.  People are and have been very friendly and helpful and i still admire their patience.     i must say -  i see a before and after the p andemic!  But then, the world has really been changed everywhere.  and even though i live in el centro de Merida, it is amazing how quiet it is most of the time.  there are always challenges....nevertheless i am happy here.

15:50  This is so true. I get a very positive reaction when I tell people I’m a resident and not on vacation. People are so happy to hear that. “Oh, you’re a Mexican!”
