You're definitely onto a good thing with this James.
Our small UK 2.6kW solar setup has practically zeroed our electric bill with the free energy and the FIT payments.
I could import a 16kW chinese battery for only about £1100 but could not find an installer who would take on the job without pricing the job out of existence or insisting they can only install their massively overpriced batteries!
It was impossible to find a UK installer who would work for a call out charge and hourly rate rather than costing what was a simple job for thousands of pounds!
In the Philippines that problem doesn't exist.
We are going to install the largest solar our roof can take with a large battery storage so we can be practically bill free for our electric power.
We have a house in Antipolo City and brownouts are less common there but as you say the world situation is becoming less stable and petrol/diesel prices are likely to keep increasing with access decreasing with the various middle east wars, etc.
Add in a nice EV car and you are more self sufficient with zero energy costs.
Starting off with battery storage charging from the grid is a good move to cope with those brownouts.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your system gets created.
