You never forget the phenomenal noise that the Vulcans make as they fly directly over you as they landed at Norwich Airport uk

You may find "When Britain nuked America..Twice" interesting. The Vulcan doing what it does, against any enemy.

we always went to the Farnborough Air Display in the 1960s and the Vulcan made the ground tremble with its engines on take-off and speech impossible. The roar was something else.

Often saw two fly over my house. They were a sigh to behold. Huge and with an unmistakable howl.

I lived in Farnborough for the greater part of my life and our house was in the flight path of the Airshow. To see and hear the Vulcan Bomber come right over was awesome we could almost touch it. Great memories . Airplanes like this actually helped to stop any Nuclear War breaking out. This is what the CND people never understood !

The Vulcan was easily the LOUDEST aircraft I have EVER heard. At an air display they performed a Vulcan scramble, we were on the edge of the runway right at the point of lift off. The ground was vibrating, the engines were screaming, the air was boiling. It was thrillingly impressive for a young lad of 14. Never forgotten that moment!!!😁😁😁🇬🇧

The Vulcan, when flying overhead, gives an eerie howling sound. As you walk underneath one it seems as though you are walking beneath a monster. The wings are huge. A truly magnificient machine.

Deadly purpose but beautiful in concept, design and operation. Actually because a primary aim was to deter, one could also argue that they were life-saving but the moral complexities and contradictions are beyond my tiny brain I think the lesson my generation learned from the Nazis was the danger of appeasing bullies as we attempted to do in the 1930's. China with its threats against Taiwan, now one of the most civilised countries in the World, is rapidly descending into bully status. Maybe we will need deterence in this generation: I hope not.

The Victor bomber is said to have the most malevolent look of any war plane. I think it’s true especially viewed from the front

I'm a child of the 70s, I grew up with the Vulcan bombers regularly flying overhead.
I once asked my dad what they were doing and he replied "keeping us safe son".

Back in the late 1960s I used to buy small hard plastic Vulcan bomber shaped gliders from the local sweet shop. Which were launched with a rubber band attached to a short stick. They were absolutely lethal because of the thin spike shaped nose of the model. This was in the days before "health & safety". They didn't last long, because the nose broke off the model the first time they hit anything hard.

Back in the dim and distant past, I used to be a Weapons Engineering Tech in the RAF. I never actually worked on the Vulcan during my Air Force career, but when I was doing my apprenticeship and training, there was an element called "Airfields Phase." And they had a retired Vulcan - amongst many other aircraft - for us to train on. It had three (what were known as) seven store carriers which it could be fitted with when carrying conventional bombs. Thus it could take a maximum of 21 × 1000lb bombs. When we'd finished loading a seven store carrier we all collapsed on the "pan" underneath the aircraft (it was a hot summer day), our instructor - a Sergeant - went up into the cockpit and called us up one at a time to give us an appraisal of our progress upto that point. When I went up and jumped into the co-pilot's seat I was immediately given a bollocking for not checking the ejection seat pins before occupying the seat. It had always been repeatedly rammed into us the importance of checking the ejection seat safety pins before getting in the cockpit. It turned out that all of us got a bollocking because none of us bothered to check the seat pins prior to getting in the seat. A good example of the notorious Vulcan howl can be heard on a YouTube video titled "This must be the longest Vulcan XH558 howl." The channel is Oxon Images. If it made that sound flying over Port Stanley Airport in 1982, then the Argies must have shit themselves.

I live in Doncaster. I used to love seeing the Vulcan overhead. Nothing will ever compare to its howl. Iconic

The Vulcan had a unique " Howl " once heard , never forgotten . 🇬🇧

My grandmother built Lancaster bombers at the AVRO factory in North Manchester. When I was a kid at primary school we watched one of the last Vulcan bombers fly over before being decommissioned. My primary school was next to AVRO.

The Vulcan (although I never had the experience with the Victor or the Valiant) was the loudest noise I EVER heard. and the Vulcan "howl" is just so iconic
I've told the story before in another comments section, but here I go again....
I was once at an airshow on the south coast of England where some bright spark decided it would be a great idea to have a Vulcan do a low and slow pass over the airbase.
The problem is, with the Vulcan having a delta wing, which are notoriously bad at slow speeds, for it to go slow, the engines have to be at full throttle. So we had a Vulcan at a couple of hundred feet (if not lower), going as slow as it can, but with all four Olympus engines pumping out as much power, and therefore noise, as they could.
It literally [temporarily] deafened everyone on the airbase for about 15 minutes. But I remember it to this day.

An interesting note for you, XH558 is based at Doncaster Airport (but no longer allowed to fly). Doncaster Airport was redeveloped from what used to be RAF Finningley where Vulcans were previously based for a period.

Here's a video from 1989 showing the comparison of take-off between a US Air Force B52 and an RAF Vulcan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYOgsgnZ8dw&list=WL&index=66&t=1s

Did you know that as the Manhattan project was coming to its completion it was pointed out that the Americans who where to drop the bomb on Japan didn't have an aircraft that could carry it. The only aircraft in the world that could do it was the British Lancaster. And that's the start of another story.

I remember watching the Vulcan at airshows with my parents. If there is a plane that can physically move people with its presence, that's it. An awesome experience to witness. You feel it through your entire body when it opens up!

This makes me proud to be British🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
