Welcome back to Part Two of my exploration of oakmoss—from the linear to the complex, and all the fascinating ways this extraordinary material can express itself in fragrance.
Oakmoss can be green, earthy, damp, woody, leathery, elegant, shadowy, fresh—or almost completely transformed by everything surrounding it.
That is what makes it so fascinating.
In this installment, we’re continuing our journey through my collection, looking at fragrances in which oakmoss plays very different roles. Sometimes you can practically reach into the composition and pull the moss out. In others, it becomes one piece of an extraordinarily complex structure of florals, citrus, woods, leather, resins, fruit, spice and animalic notes.
And this time we’re moving between very different eras and styles—from vintage designer fragrances to contemporary niche perfumery and modern interpretations of the chypre structure.
One material. Twelve very different fragrances. And twelve very different ideas of what oakmoss can be.

From the unmistakably mossy to the beautifully abstract, oakmoss proves once again that a single material can take us into completely different olfactory worlds.
So now I want to know: How do YOU like your oakmoss?
Do you want it green, earthy and unmistakable—or do you prefer it woven deep into a complicated chypre where you’re never quite sure where the moss ends and everything else begins?
And, of course, Part Three may be inevitable. My collection has a lot more oakmoss to say. 🌿
