Social Media has become a digital door-to-door salesman who doesn't stop knocking.

We need to all start volunteering! That’s a great way to meet new people, create a third space, spend time on something we care about, and FIGHT BACK against the terrifying changes we’ve been seeing in America

ditching social media was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I feel so much more present, happier and free.

"Reading is a status symbol" What? That should be a basic skill

Millennial in my mid 30s. A few years ago I started taking month long breaks from social media. This past January I permanently deleted all of my social media except YouTube, even as a musician. I realized over time I could thrive without social media, so I got rid of of these platforms. More cons than pros in my opinion. Too much manipulation, scams, lust, and vanity.

bedrotting and resting are different. honestly the whole "bedrotting" thing is glamorizing depression, the term is quite literally rotting away in your bed and when my depression was at its worst I would not leave the house for about a month and just lived between my bed and computer desk, im in a significantly better place and im glad I never got hooked on TikTok, I just wish this horrible cycle wasn't constantly repeated.

I quit every social media except YouTube about a year ago, and it’s honestly been an amazing decision. If you’re on the fence, take it from me: you will own your life back again !! Albeit, I often get down YouTube rabbit holes but I am working on it 😭 for the most part, I’m really happy :)

Imho the problem with quitting social media is that you still want to stay connected, keep up with your friends’ lives, and share things like memes with them. I’ve been avoiding Instagram for the past year (and I feel much better), but I’ve noticed that people have become so used to posting everything there that they forget they could just send a message instead. Instead of sharing an Instagram story for the whole world to see, they could simply text a friend and say, “Hey, look what I did today! Do you like it?”—turning it into an actual conversation.

Also, have you noticed how people feel entitled to share their opinions online, yet if you text them directly, they probably won’t even care enough to reply or just brush you off with some throwaway phrase?

Social media gives the illusion of staying updated, but in reality, it just makes you feel detached and disconnected from what’s happening around you.

Grandmillenial here ..I was devastated when you said GenZ isn't into dancing because of the constant risk of being recorded. I hope this changes before another generation loses the same freedom of personal expression and joy.

I still get shit on regularly for only having yt and no other social media. I'd love to see the POV change but Im not seeing it yet.

the most jarring thing about reaching adulthood (fs at 29) is the realization that our parents were right about one thing: it IS ‘cause of that damn phone.

sometimes, and with nuance, ofc. i deleted tiktok out of the blue like a year ago and my life has improved 10x—i’m making more real progress in my REAL life and have a career path now, and i’m less anxious because i’m not mainlining negative events, thoughts & opinions via the algorithm + never ending scroll. i have a strong sense of justice but being aware of EVERYTHING BAD HAPPENING constantly was paralyzing

I deleted Insta four months ago n tiktok a month ago! Since then, I've gone back to my voracious reader roots, and I have currently writing and outlining a book. After work, I usually unwind by watching youtube and reading, instead of scrolling mindlessly. It feels gr8!

i quit all social media a few months ago and it’s been amazing. i find it telling that whenever i tell people i did it they’re like “good for you i should probably do that too”

a lot of celebrities have come forward and said that they actually don’t use their own social media, instead their assistants manage their social media and i think that’s another example in that instance⚡️

i think the pandemic is a big part of why people are like this too. during that time, the internet was the only third space we could exist in, and if you went out to have fun in third spaces, you were called inconsiderate and careless. now the default is to hang out in digital third spaces. i think a lot of people just have this habit left over from 2020 and don't even realize it.

Crazy how I’ve been using social media since I was 14, and now, at 19, I finally deleted TikTok, Instagram & co. Honestly, probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I used to scroll every single day, getting influenced without even realizing it. The first days after quitting? I literally dreamt about scrolling. That’s how deep I was in. But now? No more distractions, no more FOMO, just pure focus. And trust me, your life will change for good.

thank you so much for citing sources!! I know that should be the baseline, but no one cites things anymore and misinformation spreads so fast 😭

Age 26. I wake up, look outside, and breathe, then I make time to read for at least 30 mins(I prefer an hour). I freshen up for the day and go to the gym. In this time, I make sure all I've done with my phone is listen to music. The key is not to completely remove ourselves. We must dictate our time on our phones and the reasons and ways we use it. A phone is a great tool. Use it. Don't let it use you. 🔥

I LOVE your slow-paced editing style that only includes screen shots and b-roll that are genuinely relevant, none of this stock footage filler nonsense. AND you watching the videos you shared, reacting in a normal way, instead of having over the top reactions that distract from the video you're showing. SO refreshing. Never change <3

i’m 17 and got rid of all social media. it sucks going against the grain since everyone around me is on social media but i’ve felt much better without it!
