I gave up on inkjets in the early 2000’s for the same reasons. I then relied on a late-90’s Brother laser printer that I replaced the fuser on once. When the second one went, I upgraded to a Brother color laser about 5 years ago. I’ve had to replace magenta and black once.

Hi, I really really like your review, because it appears so genuine, without any sponsor or company bias and covers just about everything I would want to know about a Brother Laser. You even printed a newsletter type colour document rather than a full page photograph, which is a stress test for any printer.

I live in the UK and have used an Epsom C1100 colour laser for TWENTY ONE years. When I bought it, it was recommended by the UK Consumer Association (Which?) who especially commented on its excellent printing of colour photos. My day to day B/W printing uses a small HP B/W laser so the Epson got little regular use so a laser that just works after 6 months hibernation was excellent.

However a few months ago it gave me an unwelcome error code, requesting an engineer visit. I have the service manual and the repair options include replacing many expensive components, if even available after 30 years. Just as you said of your previous printer, even if an engineer could be found, doing so is unreasonable, given the updated facilities of current printers.
I do not yet know know if I will buy another colour laser or a tank based inkjet printer, (an option not available 30 years ago). However THANK YOU for your clear demonstration of exactly how a modern Colour Laser would operate.

We have a Brother HL-L8260CDW and it's a great workhorse for us; difference is the higher-yield cartridge size. Great printer for us, mixed Mac and Windows network. We found that rarely we need to reset the machine with a power cycle, and we keep networking simple with a USB switch. Great printer.

The quality of the paper can make a significant difference in reading and in avoiding 'bleeds'.

I know you've said, Lon, that these printer videos end up doing well for you over time. I don't usually watch printer videos, but this laser printer was interesting to me as I've considered going with such a machine. My HP inkjet combo unit is quite old and rickety these days, though it has served me well. I'm not looking for something new yet, but it's good to be prepared. As a review video, it was quite compelling and didn't feel like 17 minutes. This will probably be my first stop when that time comes. I also got some interesting prospects from the comments too. Definitely good to get the overview on what to expect with a unit like this. The up-front costs are high, but if the toner lasts a long time, then it's still worth it.

What I like about Brother printers is that they usually come with drivers for Linux. Checked this one and it does have Linux drivers. I got a Brother inkjet printer a year or so after I got an HP printer. Both were on a network. I almost always used the Brother printer for printing with my Linux PC. Unfortunately the Brother printer died after several years use.

Nice printer Lon. The old HP 4xxx monochrome series were workhorse printers. When they moved on from them, the rest were junk and so were the all-in-one devices. My old 2017 200.00 Brother monochrome print and scan device is still going strong.

I have a Brother color laser printer that I use as a backup. It’s reliable and the prints are crisp. My primary is an (Ecotank) Epson ET-16500 ink jet. It requires more maintenance than the Brother, but the ink lasts about two years before refilling. It is better for graphics and photos, especially when using premium paper.

Nice, I've been a big fan of brother over the years, as they even support us Linux users fairly well, but I will admit on my B/W Brother Laser I've had for a few years, it is a pain in the arse to set up the WiFi on the tiny b/w one line LCD screen, so I'm glad to see they have improved that to make it easier.

We have a Brother MFC-9460CDN at home that we've been using for about 10 years. No problems. We actually use the feeder to scan stuff to PDF on a network share more than we print.
